The Santa Clara Broncos will travel to the Chiles Center to take on the Portland Pilots this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Santa Clara Broncos had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 15-14 (7-8 WCC) on the season after being defeated by the Loyola-Marymount Lions, 72-70, this past Thursday. Santa Clara led by a 48-31 margin at halftime, however, was dominated on both ends of the court in the 2nd half agianst the Lions and allowed Loyola-Marymount to fight back from a 20-point deficit to get the victory. Santa Clara shot 42.6% from the field and 37.5% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Broncos was Tahj Eaddy who had 28 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 assists.
On the season, Santa Clara is averaging 68.7 ppg on 44.7% shooting from the field. The Broncos are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 35.8% shooting from beyond the arc. The Portland Pilots lost their 16th consecutive game and dropped to 7-23 (0-15 WCC) on the season after being defeated by the Saint Mary’s Gaels, 65-48, this past Thursday. Portland had no answers on the offensive end agianst the tough Gaels defense and couldn’t fight back after they went into halftime trailing by a 34-17 margin. Portland shot just 34.0% from the field and 23.1% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Pilots was Marcus Shaver Jr. who had 13 points, 3 rebounds, 1 block, and 2 steals.
On the season, Portland is averaging 65.6 ppg on 41.5% shooting from the field. The Pilots are averaging 6.7 three-pointers per game on 32.1% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Portland has been led by Marcus Shaver Jr. (14.9 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.3 apg, 1.3 spg), JoJo Walker (11.7 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 3.4 apg, 1.0 spg), Josh McSwiggan (9.7 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.5 apg), and Franklin Porter (6.3 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 1.9 apg).

Both of these teams haven’t had the greatest seasons, however, both the Broncos & Pilots have been incredible ATS lately. Santa Clara is the better team, however, the Pilots gave the Broncos a game in Santa Clara earlier this season and as I was actually impressed by the Pilots OT loss in their last home game agianst San Francisco, I think the Pilots will keep this one close and at worst cover with the points.
