Providence Friars +1.5 O/U: 136
The Butler Bulldogs and the Providence Friars will meet up on the college basketball circuit in the Big East Tournament Wednesday.
Butler comes in here at 16-15 on the season. The Bulldogs have lost four of their last five games, with losses to Marquette, Villanova and Providence (twice) during that span.
In the loss to Providence on Saturday, Butler’s top scorer was Paul Jorgensen with 17 points and four rebounds. Lamar Baldwin added 15 points and four boards for the Friars there, and Joey Brunk had 13 points.
Over on the Providence side, they’re 17-14 this season. The Friars are 2-1 in their last three games, with a loss to Creighton sandwiched between two wins versus Butler February 26 and this past Saturday.
In the win over Butler Saturday, Providence’s AJ Reeves led the way with 24 points and four rebounds. Isaiah Jackson added 20 points and five rebounds for the Friars in that one and Alpha Diallo had 11 points with nine boards.
The Bulldogs are 44-18-2 ATS in their last 64 neutral-site games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up loss. Butler is 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the Big East and the over is 5-1-1 in their last seven overall.
Meanwhile, the Friars are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 Wednesday games and 1-6 ATS in their last seven after a straight-up win. Providence is 0-7 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win and the over is 5-2 in their last seven overall.
Well, the good thing about this matchup is that we’ve got two very recent games between these two teams that we can draw from. The Friars won them both; on the road 73-67 and at home 83-70, so they’ve definitely got the upper hand.
I don’t think a neutral site will help Butler all that much, as I think Providence simply has their number. I’m going to stick with the Friars to keep the streak going here.
