Providence Friars -3 -- Over/Under: 148.5
The Georgetown Hoyas will travel to the Dunkin Donuts Center to take on the Providence Friars this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Georgetown Hoyas dropped to 14-8 (4-5 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the 14th ranked Villanova Wildcats, 77-65, this past Sunday. Georgetown led by a 34-33 margin at halftime, however, struggled defensively down the stretch against the Wildcats and couldn’t fight back after a 16-2 Villanova run gave the Wildcats a 69-55 lead with just 2:28 left in regulation. Georgetown shot just 33.8% from the field and 30.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Hoyas was James Akinjo who had 19 points, 2 rebounds, and 4 assists.
On the season, Georgetown is averaging 82.4 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Hoyas are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 37.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Georgetown has been led by Jessie Govan (18.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.3 apg, 1.4 bpg), James Akinjo (14.1 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 5.2 apg, 1.0 spg), Mac McClung (13.2 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 2.1 apg), and Josh LeBlanc (9.6 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.1 spg, 1.0 bpg).
Defensively, Georgetown is allowing their opponents to average 78.1 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Hoyas have a rebound margin of 4.1 and a turnover margin of -1.2.
The Providence Friars lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 13-9 (3-6 Big East) on the season after being defeated by the DePaul Blue Demons, 67-55, this past Saturday. Providence had a surprisingly tough time against the DePaul defense and allowed the Blue Demons to pull away later as DePaul finished the last 5:41 of regulation on a 14-2 run. Providence shot just 28.6% from the field and 24.1% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Friars was Alpha Diallo who had 15 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals.
On the season, Providence is averaging 72.1 ppg on 42.4% shooting from the field. The Friars are averaging 6.8 three-pointers per game on 33.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Providence has been led by Alpha Diallo (17.1 ppg, 8.1 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.9 spg), A.J. Reeves (12.1 ppg, 2.4 rpg, 1.1 spg), Nate Watson (10.8 ppg, 5.3 rpg), and Isaiah Jackson (9.0 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.4 spg).
Defensively, Providence is allowing their opponents to average 69.1 ppg on 42.9% shooting from the field. The Friars have a rebound margin of 1.4 and a turnover margin of 1.9.
The Hoyas are 12-4 ATS in their last 16 road games, however, just 8-18-1 ATS in their last 27 games overall. The Friars are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Wednesday games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following an ATS loss.
Georgetown has lost 3 of their last 5 games and although their offense has been putting up a bunch of points as they rank T-23rd in scoring offense, 155th in FG%, and 53rd in 3P-FG%, the Hoyas have struggled defensively as they currently rank just T-317th in scoring defense.
Providence has lost 6 of their last 9 games and although their defense has been decent as they rank 125th in scoring defense & 80th in turnover margin, the Friars have had trouble scoring the basketball as they come into this match-up ranked just 208th in scoring offense & 280th in FG%.
Georgetown is a solid offensive team, however, the Hoyas defense is a real concern. Providence lost to Georgetown in a double-OT thriller earlier this season, however, as the Friars have won their last 5 home games agianst Hoyas, I think Alpha Diallo and the Providence offense will be able to do enough in this one to cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
