The Marquette Golden Eagles and the Providence Friars meet in Big East college basketball action from the Dunkin’ Donuts Center on Saturday afternoon.
The Marquette Golden Eagles come into this game looking to add to their current 3-game winning streak after a 79-69 win over Butler last time out. Markus Howard led Marquette with 28 points on 9 of 20 shooting with 6 threes while Theo John had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. As a team, Marquette is averaging 79 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the field, 39.7% from behind the arc and 77% from the foul line this season.
The Providence Friars will look to build some steam after a 78-59 win over St. John’s in their last outing. Nate Watson led the Friars with 21 points on 8 of 12 shooting with 9 rebounds while Alpha Diallo added 16 points with a team-high 11 rebounds for the double-double. Marquette is 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games and 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games overall while the over is 12-4-1 in their last 17 games against a team with a winning record. Providence is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the under is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games overall. Marquette is 15-4 ATS in the last 19 meetings between these two teams and 6-2 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams at Providence.
Getting points with Providence at home is tempting as points usually are with a home dog. However, unless there’s something that I’m not picking up on, we are getting a low line with one of the hottest teams in the country right now in Marquette that has been a covering machine on the road and have been covering games overall left and right for quite some time now. The Friars just aren’t on the same wavelength as Marquette in my opinion, so I’ll lay the points with the Golden Eagles in this one.
