The Line: Purdue Boilermakers -13.5 -- Over/Under: 148
The Ball State Cardinals and the Purdue Boilermakers will be meeting up in college basketball action on Saturday from Mackey Arena.
Ball State comes into this season following a 19-13 campaign last year and a 10-8 mark in MAC play. The Cards fell in the quarterfinals of the MAC Tournament to Kent State, ending their season.
So far this year, Ball State is 1-0 following an 86-69 win over Indiana State. In that one, the Cardinals’ top scorer was Tahjai Teague with 21 points and seven rebounds, while Brachen Hazen added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Over on the Purdue side, they’re coming off a nice 30-7 run last year with a 15-3 mark in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers lost in the conference tournament championship to Michigan, then fell in the Sweet Sixteen to Texas Tech.
Purdue opened things up with a win this year as well, taking Fairfield 90-57. Tops in scoring was Carsen Edwards, with 30 points and two assists. Ryan Cline led the team on eight assists, and Grady Eifert put up 10 rebounds.
The Cardinals are 4-1 ATS in their last five non-conference games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight road games. Ball State is 1-5 ATS in their last six overall and 1-6 ATS in their last seven Saturday games.
Meanwhile, the Boilermakers are 13-4-3 ATS in the last 20 Saturday games and 35-16 ATS in their last 51 non-conference games. Purdue is 3-13-1 ATS in their last 17 overall and 1-11 ATS in their last 12 following a straight-up win.
After a pretty tepid first half against the Sycamores, Ball State amped it up in the second, turning a 32-32 halftime tie into a 54-37 game the rest of the way. The scoring balance seemed pretty solid as well, with several players contributing.
Purdue came out running as expected in their game, and put up a nice effort as well. Still, I think Ball State has enough scoring to eke out a cover here.
