Fairfield Stags (17-16) at Purdue Boilermakers (30-7)

The Line: Purdue Boilermakers -21 -- Over/Under: 150
The Fairfield Stags and the Purdue Boilermakers will battle it out on the college basketball court on Tuesday from Mackey Arena.
Fairfield managed to go 9-9 in MAAC play last year and 17-16 overall with a sixth-place finish. In the MAAC Tournament, the Stags got on a roll with wins over Marist, Niagara and Quinnipiac but fell to Iona in the championship 83-71.
Fairfield had some bumps in the road during their season, but finished off with four straight wins ahead of the conference tournament, and made that seven in a row before their loss in the final round.
Over on the Purdue side, they’re fresh off a 30-7 season overall and a 15-3 mark in the Big Ten, which gave them a tie for second place. The Boilermakers made it to the conference championship—where they lost to Michigan—and managed to get to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Tournament, where they fell to Texas Tech.
Purdue loses a quartet of seniors this year in Vincent Edwards, Isaac Haas, Dakota Mathias and PJ Thompson, but also adds a few solid recruits in Trevion Williams, Emmanuel Dowuona and Eric Hunter.
The Stags are 4-1 ATS in their last five overall and 7-18-1 ATS in their last 26 Tuesday games. Fairfield is 2-6 ATS in their last eight versus the Big Ten and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 road games.
Meanwhile, the Boilermakers are 9-2-1 ATS in their last 12 Tuesday games and 5-15-1 ATS in their last 21 overall. Purdue is 1-4 ATS in their last five versus the Metro Atlantic Athletic, and 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.
Fairfield hit their proverbial stride late in the season and will come into this campaign refreshed and confident. Purdue kicks off with high expectations and needs to get out of the gate strong to maintain focus.
I like the Stags here, thanks to their late-season run last year and also Purdue’s recent ATS trends at home. I’m thinking Fairfield can get in there and cover.
