The Iona Gaels will travel to the People’s United Center to take on the Quinnipiac Bobcats this Tuesday night in College Basketball action.
The Iona Gaels won their 3rd straight game and improved to 10-15 (8-6 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Saint Peter’s Peacocks, 62-46, this past Friday night. Iona was outstanding on the defensive end agianst Saint Peter’s and had no trouble pulling away for the victory after taking a 42-29 lead with 12:47 left in regulation. Iona held Saint Peter’s to just 34.0% from the field and outrebounded the Peacocks by a 41-34 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Gaels was Rickey McGill who had 13 points, 5 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 blocks, and 3 steals.
On the season, Iona is averaging 76.5 ppg on 45.1% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 33.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Iona has been led by E.J. Crawford (17.6 ppg, 4.9 rpg, 1.9 apg), Rickey McGill (14.9 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 5.4 apg, 2.3 spg), Asante Gist (12.4 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.0 apg), and Tajuan Agee (12.4 ppg, 7.9 rpg, 1.0 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Iona is allowing their opponents to average 77.8 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Gaels have a rebound margin of -3.1 and a turnover margin of 0.6.
The Quinnipiac Bobcats improved to 14-11 (9-5 MAAC) on the season after defeating the Siena Saints, 107-100 in triple OT, this past Sunday. Quinnipiac allowed Siena to fight back from a 39-24 deficit to force OT, however, got a record scoring performance by Cameron Young and was able to pull away in the triple OT after taking a 102-97 lead with :46 seconds left. Quinnipiac shot 50.7% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Bobcats was Cameron Young who had 55 points, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists.
On the season, Quinnipiac is averaging 73.6 ppg on 42.8% shooting from the field. The Bobcats are averaging 10.6 three-pointers per game on 36.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Quinnipiac has been led by Cameron Young (22.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.2 spg), Rich Kelly (12.9 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 4.6 apg), Jacob Rigoni (10.2 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 1.3 apg), and Tyrese Williams (9.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 2.5 apg).
Defensively, Quinnipiac is allowing their opponents to average 72.2 ppg on 44.3% shooting from the field. The Bobcats have a rebound margin of 1.0 and a turnover margin of -2.4.
The Gaels are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games vs. MAAC opponents and just 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games overall. The Bobcats are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 Tuesday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 game overall.
Iona has split their last 8 games and although their defense has struggled as they rank just 311th in scoring defense, the Gaels have been solid offensively as they rank 91st in scoring offense & 154th in FG%.
Quinnipiac has won 4 of their last 5 games and comes into this game ranked 162nd in scoring offense, 10th in three-pointers made per game, and 200th in scoring defense.
Iona has started to play better after they recently dropped 4-straight, however, the Gaels are just 2-9 on the road this season and lost to the Bobcats by a 66-65 margin at home less than two weeks ago. Quinnipiac comes into this game tied with Canisius with the best conference record in the MAAC and although we can’t expect Cameron Young to score 55-points again, I expect Young and the Bobcats offense to have success at home against the Gaels and cover this small home spread. Good Luck!
