The Line: Rice Owls +7 -- Over/Under: 139.5
The Southern Miss Golden Eagles and the Rice Owls will meet up in college basketball action on Thursday.
Southern Miss comes into this one at 8-5 overall. The Eagles are 1-3 in their last three games however, taking out South Dakota and falling to Wichita State, Kansas State and LA Tech during that time.
In the Bulldogs game, Southern Miss’ LaDavius Draine led the team on 13 points with two rebounds. The only other Golden Eagles player in double-figures there was Cortez Edwards with 10 points, three rebounds and two assists.
Over on the Rice side, they’re 5-9 this season. The Owls are also just 1-3 in their last four outings, beating UTRGV while dropping to UCSB, Omaha and North Texas in that quartet of appearances.
In the Mean Green Game, Rice’s Robert Martin led the way on 35 points with four rebounds and four assists. Also in double-figures for the Owls there were Ako Adams (17 points; six assists) and Chris Mullins (10 points).
The Golden Eagles are 19-7-1 ATS in their last 27 Thursday games and 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games. Southern Miss is 1-4 ATS in their last five following an ATS loss and the under is 4-0 in their last four overall.
Meanwhile, the Owls are 4-1 ATS in their last five Thursday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five following an ATS loss. Rice is 1-7 ATS in their last eight overall and 0-4 ATS in their last four home games.
After some gimme games on the early schedule, Southern Miss is hitting a gauntlet of solid squads right now and flailing pretty badly record-wise.
Rice isn’t a great team, however they can put up points. Still, this will be an opportunity for the Eagles to try and put up a good effort and get things back on track. I’m going with Southern Miss, so long as they show up.
