East coast college basketball brings us a matchup between the Old Dominion Monarchs and the Richmond Spiders.
The red hot Old Dominion Monarchs have racked up six straight wins after a 68-62 upset of Syracuse as a ten point underdog on Saturday. Old Dominion looked dead in the water with only 23 points after 20 minutes before dominating the second half 45-29 behind a 46%-33.3% shooting edge.
BJ Stith paced the Monarchs attack with 18 points and ten rebounds on 4-10 from the field and 10-11 at the stripe while Xavier Green tossed in 15 points on 6-9 accuracy. ODU received eleven points from Marquis Godwin on 4-9 followed by a nine point, seven rebound, four assist effort from Ahmad Caver.
The Richmond Spiders are looking to get back in the win column after a 59-52 loss versus visiting Oral Roberts on Saturday ended a modest two game winning streak. Richmond mustered just 23 first half points and trailed by eight with 29.9% shooting and 19 more looks at the basket unable to overcome the Golden Eagles 52.1% marksmanship.
Nathan Cayo was the top Spiders offensive threat with a game high 17 points and eight boards on 7-13 from the field. Jacob Gilyard gave the Spiders 14 points, eight rebounds and seven steals on 5-17 shooting including 1-9 from distance followed by Grant Golden and Jake Wojcik with a combined 18 points and ten rebounds.
