The Line: Richmond Spiders PK -- Over/Under: 147.5
We have some A-10 college basketball action on tap Wednesday night, as the VCU Rams take on the Richmond Spiders.
The VCU Rams will look to bounce back after having their 3 game winning streak snapped thanks to an 81-68 loss to Rhode Island in their last outing. Justin Tillman led the Rams with 22 points on 7 of 16 shooting with a team-high 6 rebounds and a pair of blocks, while Sean Mobley added 15 points on 5 of 7 shooting, hitting all 4 of his 3-point attempts as the only other VCU player to finish in double figures scoring in the loss. Jonathan Williams dished out a team-high 4 assists as well in the losing effort. Tillman leads VCU with an average of 18.3 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while Williams is the Rams’ top assist man with 5.7 assists per game this season. As a team, VCU is scoring 77 points per game on 45.3% shooting from the field, 35.2% from behind the arc and 73.1% from the foul line this season.
The Richmond Spiders will try to bounce back after having their 5 game winning streak snapped thanks to a 79-75 loss to George Mason in their last outing. Nick Sherod led the team with 32 points on 10 of 21 shooting with a pair of threes and a 10 of 11 mark from the foul line along with 3 steals and a team-high 11 rebounds for the double-double. Jacob Gilyard came 2nd with 11 points and a team-high 5 assists with 3 steals of his own while Grant Golden added 10 points with 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks for Richmond in the loss. Golden leads the Spiders in scoring with 15.6 points per game while Gilyard leads Richmond with 3.9 assists per game and De’Monte Buckingham leads the way on the glass with 7.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Richmond is scoring 68.7 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 31.9% from behind the arc and 68.5% from the foul line this season.
VCU is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games against a team with a losing home record and 3-13 ATS in their last 16 Wednesday games while the over is 6-0 in their last 6 road games. Richmond is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. VCU is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams and 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings at Richmond.
If you gave me this line before conference play started, I would’ve back VCU and walked to cash the ticket before tip-off. However, the Spiders have been one of the best teams in the A-10 as of late and looked like they’ve figured things out. I’m not reading too much into Richmond’s loss against George Mason and Buckingham’s suspension was a big part of why the Spiders lost that one, but now that he’s back I expect the Spiders to complete the season sweep of VCU, so I’ll back Richmond in this pick ‘em spot.
