Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY Sports

The Maryland Terrapins and the Rutgers Scarlet Knights meet in Big Ten conference college basketball action from the Louis Brown Athletic Center on Saturday afternoon.

The Maryland Terrapins come into this game looking to build on back-to-back wins after a 74-72 win over Nebraska in their last outing. Anthony Cowan led the Terps with 19 points on 6 of 15 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 4 assists while Bruno Fernando came right behind with 18 points, 17 rebounds and a pair of blocks for the double-double. Jalen Smith added 15 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Maryland in the win. Cowan leads Maryland with an average of 16.6 points and 4.4 assists per game while Fernando leads the Terrapins in rebounding by averaging a double-double per game with 14.8 points and a team-high 10.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Maryland is averaging 77.2 points per game on 48.1% shooting from the field, 34.6% from behind the 3-point line and 71.8% from the foul line this season.

The Rutgers Scarlet Knights will look to build on back-to-back wins after a 70-55 win over Maine in their last outing. Eugene Omoruyi led the Knights with 17 points on 7 of 12 shooting while Caleb McConnell added 14 points with 3 threes and Myles Johnson added 10 points on a perfect 4 of 4 from the field with 10 rebounds for the double-double to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Rutgers in the win. Geo Baker chipped in 9 points to match a team-high 9 assists and 3 steals as well in the victory. Omoruyi leads Rutgers with an average of 16 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while Geo Baker leads Rutgers in assists with 5 assists per game this season. As a team, Rutgers is averaging 69.1 points per game on 41% shooting from the field, 31.3% from behind the arc and 62.6% from the foul line this season.

Maryland is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games against a team with a winning home record while the under is 12-4 in their last 16 conference games. Rutgers is 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a win while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 conference games. Maryland is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.

Unless there’s something that I’m missing, I’m not sure why the line is this low for this game. Maryland has done really well ATS on the road this season, as a matter of fact you could argue that away from home, Maryland has played some of their best basketball. Furthermore, while Rutgers has played some tight games lately, the fact is that Maryland is the better team here and in recent meetings, it hasn’t been that close. Maryland is 6-0 SU against Rutgers since 2015, with the last 5 wins coming by double digits. I’ll side with Maryland here as I think this low line is a gift and it’s one that I’ll gladly accept.

Maryland -3
