The Line: Saint Joseph's Hawks -14.5 -- Over/Under 140.5
The George Washington Colonials will travel to Hagan Arena to take on the Saint Joseph’s Hawks this Sunday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The George Washington Colonials improved to 4-9 (0-0 A-10) on the season after defeating the American Eagles, 71-67 in OT, on December 29th. George Washington allowed American to force OT after going scoreless in the final 1:26 of regulation, however, was able to pull away in OT after a pair of Terry Nolan Jr. FT’s gave the Colonials a 70-66 lead with just :12 seconds left in regulation. George Washington shot just 33.8% from the field, however, did win the turnover battle by a 20-13 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Colonials was Javier Langarica who had a double-double with 15 points, 12 rebounds, 5 blocks, 1 assist, and a steal.
On the season, George Washington is averaging 64.0 ppg on 40.9% shooting from the field. The Colonials are averaging 5.9 three-pointers per game on 31.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, George Washington has been led by DJ Williams (13.5 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.0 apg), Terry Nolan Jr. (12.2 ppg, 4.4 rpg, 1.9 apg, 1.0 spg), Arnaldo Toro (10.1 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 1.4 spg), and Justin Mazzulla (9.1 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.7 apg, 1.1 spg).
Defensively, George Washington is allowing their opponents to average 71.8 ppg on 44.2% shooting from the field. The Colonials have a rebound margin of -6.5 and a turnover margin of 0.6.
The Saint Joseph’s Hawks had their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 7-6 (0-1 A-10) on the season after being defeated by the George Mason Patriots, 85-60, this past Thursday. Saint Joseph’s went into halftime tied at 34-all, however, struggled on both ends of the court in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 19-0 Patriots run gave George Mason a 76-54 lead with 4:45 left in regulation. Saint Joseph’s shot just 34.6% from the field & 23.3% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Hawks was Charlie Brown Jr. who had 17 points, 4 rebounds, and 1 assist.
On the season, Saint Joseph’s is averaging 73.2 ppg on 42.6% shooting from the field. The Hawks are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 35.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Saint Joseph’s has been led by Charlie Brown Jr. (20.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg), Lamarr Kimble (17.5 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 2.6 apg, 1.0 spg), Jared Bynum (12.0 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 3.6 apg, 1.3 spg), and Taylor Funk (10.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 1.7 apg).
Defensively, Saint Joseph’s is allowing their opponents to average 72.7 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Hawks have a rebound margin of -1.9 and a turnover margin of 2.1.
The Colonials are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games overall, however, are just 6-20-1 ATS in their last 27 road games. The Hawks are 20-3 ATS in their last 23 games following a double-digit loss at home and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games vs. A-10 opponents.
George Washington has won 3 of their last 4 games, however, this is a team that is going to continue to struggle this season if they don’t improve an offense that currently ranks T-335th in scoring offense & 312th in FG%. Saint Joseph’s has to be disappointed by their performance against George Mason and although they have a great duo in Brown Jr/Kimble, the Hawks rank just 204th in scoring offense & 211th in scoring defense.
George Washington is not a great team, however, I’m concerned about the Hawks offense this season as they just don’t have a lot of depth behind Brown Jr/Kimble. Saint Joseph’s is going to win this game, however, I just think this is too many points for the Hawks to give up in this one. Take George Washington and the points.
