We have some West Coast conference college basketball action on tap Thursday night, as the Loyola Marymount Lions take on the Saint Mary’s Gaels.
The Loyola Marymount Lions will try to start conference play with a road upset to climb back to .500 after dropping 4 of their last 5 games, including an 88-80 loss to Cal State Fullerton in their last outing. James Batemon led the team with 29 points on 10 of 16 shooting with a team-high 7 assists, while Eli Scott added 13 points and a share of the team-high with 8 rebounds and 3 steals. Steven Haney added 10 points to round out the scoring in double figures for the Lions in the losing effort. Mattias Markusson added 8 points to match his 8 rebounds, while Zafir Williams and Jeffery McClendon each had a pair of blocks. Batemon leads the team in scoring with 19.1 points and 5 assists per game while Scott is the team’s leading rebounder with 7.9 boards per game this season.
The Saint Mary’s Gaels will look to add another notch to their current 6 game winning streak after a 95-69 win over UNC-Asheville last time out. Jock Landale led the team with 23 points on 9 of 13 shooting with 10 rebounds for the double-double, while Tanner Krebs followed right behind with 22 points on 6 triples with 7 rebounds and 3 steals to round out the scoring in double figures for the Gaels in the win. Emmett Naar added 7 points with a team-high 12 assists in the win as well. Landale leads the Gaels with an average of 21.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game while Near leads the team in assists with 9.2 assists per game this season. As a team, Saint Mary’s is scoring 81.5 points per game on 51% shooting from the field, 40.9% from behind the arc and 77.4% from the foul line this season.
Loyola Marymount is 4-1-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 2-5-1 ATS in their last 8 conference matchups while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. St. Mary’s is 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 conference matchups and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall while the under is 7-3 in their last 10 games following a win. Loyola Marymount is 2-7 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
Loyola Marymount has been a solid road play ATS this season. However, the Gaels have had the bulk of the recent success ATS in this matchup, and come into this one in much better form than LMU, who have struggled to put wins together as a whole. Give me St. Mary’s in a game the Gaels control from the opening tip.
