The Lafayette Leopards open their college basketball schedule at the Saint Peter’s Peacocks on Tuesday.

The Lafayette Leopards were well down the Patriot League standings in 7th and were 10-21 overall a year ago. Lafayette averaged 71.2 points on 45.5% accuracy and allowed 74.4 points on 45.4% shooting so the defense was an obvious issue.

The Leopards lose leading scorer and rebounder Matt Klinewski and his 16.5 points and 5.8 boards. The good news for Lafayette is second leading scorer Alex Petrie brings 15 points to the backcourt where fellow guard Justin Jaworski averaged 10.8 points. At 6-8, forward Paulius Zalys provides the Leopards with scoring (8.3 ppg) and rebounding (5.3 rpg).

The Saint Peter’s Peacocks had their moments in the MAAC but still finished 9th in the conference and were 14-18 overall. Saint Peter’s scored 65.2 points on 42% accuracy and gave up 66 points on 41.3% shooting which made every possession in the half court valuable.

The Peacocks say goodbye to Nick Griffin and his team high 12.6 points. 6-7 forward Sam Idowu becomes the Peacocks leading scorer at 11.2 points with a team high 5.9 rebounds and 1.3 blocks while Davauhnte Turner leads the backcourt with 10.6 points. Shaheen Holloway takes over as head coach and is likely going to implement a faster style of play.

Lafayette Leopards are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games and Lafayette Leopards are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games. Under is 7-0 in Saint Peters Peacocks last 7 overall and under is 11-4 in Saint Peters Peacocks last 15 non-conference games.

Not much to go on in this matchup but the Peacocks win for sure...

Lafayette +9

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
