The Western Carolina Catamounts snapped their 3-game losing streak and improved to 6-17 (3-7 Southern) on the season after defeating the Chattanooga Mocs, 105-96, this past Thursday. In a game that featured plenty of offense, the Catamounts were able to pull away for the victory after taking a 94-83 lead with 2:52 left in regulation. Western Carolina shot 56.9% from the field & 56.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Catamounts was Marcus Thomas who had 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.

The Samford Bulldogs dropped to 13-10 (3-7 Southern) on the season after being defeated by the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, 74-66, this past Thursday. Samford led by a 30-29 margin at halftime, however, struggled defensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 9-0 Buccaneers run gave East Tennessee State a 67-58 lead with 2:18 left in regulation. Samford shot just 25.0% from beyond the arc and loss the turnover battle by a 14-9 margin in the loss. Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Ruben Guerrero who had a double-double with 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 8 blocks.
On the season, Samford is averaging 78.8 ppg on 47.9% shooting from the field. The Bulldogs are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 40.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Samford has been led by Josh Sharkey (16.0 ppg, 3.8 rpg, 7.5 apg, 2.8 spg), Ruben Guerrero (14.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 2.3 bpg), Brandon Austin (13.3 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.0 spg), and Robert Allen (10.0 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.7 apg).

The Catamounts are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games overall. The Bulldogs are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games vs. a team with a road winning % of less than .400, however, just 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
Western Carolina has lost 9 of their last 12 games and have really struggled defensively this season as the Catamounts come into this match-up ranked just 326th in scoring defense, 334th in defensive FG%, and 346th in turnover margin. Samford has lost 6 of their last 8 games and although there are strong offensive team as they currently rank 55th in scoring offense & 38th in FG%, defense has been an issue for the Bulldogs as they currently rank just 249th in scoring defense.
Western Carolina was able to defeat Samford at home by a 76-69 margin earlier this season and although the Catamounts defense will face a huge challenge trying to slowdown the Bulldogs offense on the road, I think the Catamounts will be able to do enough agianst the Bulldogs to cover with the double-digit poitns. Take Western Carolina! Good Luck!
