The Utah State Aggies and the San Diego State Aztecs meet in Mountain West college basketball action from the Viejas Arena at Aztec Bowl on Saturday night.

The Utah State Aggies will look to build on their current 7-game winning streak after an 82-81 win over Fresno State in their last outing. Sam Merrill led the Aggies with 20 points along with 5 rebounds and 5 assists while Neemias Queta added 18 points on 8 of 9 shooting with team-highs of 15 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 blocks for the double-double. Brock Miller added 17 points on 6 of 9 shooting with 4 threes to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Utah State in the win. Merrill leads Utah State with an average of 19.4 points and 4.3 assists per game while Queta leads the Aggies on the glass with 9 rebounds per game. As a team, Utah State is averaging 79.9 points per game on 48% shooting from the field, 35.6% from behind the 3-point line and 74.7% from the foul line this season.

The San Diego State Aztecs will look to rebound after having their 3-game winning streak snapped after an 83-70 loss to New Mexico in their last outing. Jalen McDaniels led the Aztecs with 25 points on 11 of 19 shooting with a team-high 9 rebounds while Devin Watson added 13 points as the only other San Diego State player to score in double figures in the losing effort. McDaniels leads the Aztecs with an average of 17.1 points and 8.5 rebounds per game while Watson leads San Diego State in assists with 4.8 assists per game this season. As a team, San Diego State is averaging 75.1 points per game on 45.7% shooting from the field, 36.9% from behind the 3-point line and 74% from the foul line this season.

Utah State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games and 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games overall while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record. San Diego State is 20-8-1 ATS in their last 29 home games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games following a loss while the under is 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record. Utah State is 1-8-1 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and 1-6 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams at San Diego State.

Utah State is probably the better team here and San Diego State’s beatdown at the hands of New Mexico was the definition of an eye-opener. However, the Aztecs have been a tough out at home dating back a couple of years now and while the defense isn’t what it once was, the Aztecs can still hang with teams. Utah State has looked solid during this winning streak, but they’ve won their last two road games by a combined three points and I think we could be in for another close affair here, so I’ll take the Aztecs and the points in this one.

San Diego State +4
