The BYU Cougars and the San Diego Toreros meet in WCC college basketball action from the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Thursday night.

The BYU Cougars will look to build on their current 3-game winning streak after a 69-59 win over Pacific in their last time out. Yoeli Childs led the Cougars with 19 points along with 13 rebounds for the double-double while Connor Harding added 13 points on 4 of 6 shooting with 3 threes as the only other BYU player to finish in double figures scoring in the winning effort. Gavin Baxter added 9 points and a pair of blocks while TJ Haws had 8 points and a team-high 7 assists. Childs leads the Cougars with an average of 21 points and 9.7 rebounds per game whie Haws leads BYU in assists with 5 helpers per game this season. As a team, BYU is averaging 80.2 points per game on 47.3% shooting from the field, 32.5% from behind the 3-point line and 72.6% from the foul line this season.

The San Diego Toreros will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games after a 70-67 loss to Pepperdine in their last outing. Isaiah Wright led the Toreros with 14 points on 6 of 12 shooting with a team-high 7 assists and 4 steals while Isaiah Pineiro added 13 points, 10 rebounds, 3 assists and a pair of steals for the stat-stuffing double-double. Finn Sullivan added 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for San Diego in the losing effort. Pineiro leads San Diego with an average of 19.3 points and 9 rebounds per game while Tyler Williams leads the Toreros in assists with 3.1 assists per game this season. As a team, San Diego is averaging 73.5 points per game on 47.1% shooting from the field, 34.5% from behind the 3-point line and 74.2% from the foul line this season.

BYU is 3-11 ATS in their last 14 road games and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall. San Diego is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 3-1-1 in their last 5 home games. BYU is 0-4 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams at San Diego.

Something feels wrong about laying points with an inconsistent San Diego team against a BYU team that’s building confidence during this little winning streak. However, those 3 wins came against teams in the bottom half of the conference, and while San Diego has cooled off from their strong start to the year, the fact is that the Toreros have had the upper hand at home in this matchup and BYU’s form on the road leaves a lot to be desired. I’ll lay the bucket with San Diego as I just can’t feel comfortable trusting BYU yet.

San Diego -3.5
