The Santa Clara Broncos will travel to War Memorial Gymnasium to take on the San Francisco Dons this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The Santa Clara Broncos won their 2nd straight game and improved to 13-11 (5-5 WCC) on the season after defeating the Pepperdine Waves, 79-71, this past Thursday. Santa Clara was outstanding offensively in the 2nd half against the Waves and was able to pull away for the victory after taking a 67-54 lead with 6:39 left in regulation. Santa Clara shot 48.4% from the field and outrebounded Pepperdine by a 37-32 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Broncos was Josip Vrankic who had 26 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Santa Clara is averaging 69.3 ppg on 44.8% shooting from the field. The Broncos are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 35.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Santa Clara has been led by Tahj Eaddy (15.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 3.3 apg, 1.0 spg), Josip Vrankic (13.3 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.3 apg), Trey Wertz (12.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 4.7 apg), and Josh Martin (5.8 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 1.5 apg).
Defensively, Santa Clara is allowing their opponents to an average of 71.2 ppg on 42.7% shooting from the field. The Broncos have a rebound margin of -0.7 and a turnover margin of -3.3.
The San Francisco Dons lost their 3rd consecutive game and dropped to 17-6 (5-4 WCC) on the season after being defeated by the Gonzaga Bulldogs, 92-62, this past Thursday. San Francisco had no answers on the defensive end for the high-powered Gonzaga offense and couldn’t fight back after Gonzaga took a 48-30 lead early in the 2nd half. San Francisco shot just 38.8% from the field while allowing Gonzaga to shoot 50.0% from the field & 40.0% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Dons was Frankie Ferrari who had 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists.
On the season, San Francisco is averaging 76.1 ppg on 47.0% shooting from the field. The Dons are averaging 7.9 three-pointers per game on 34.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, San Francisco has been led by Charles Minlend (15.2 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.3 apg), Frankie Ferrari (14.1 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 5.6 apg, 1.6 spg), Matt McCarthy (10.0 ppg, 6.6 rpg), and Jordan Ratinho (8.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.0 apg).
Defensively, San Francisco is holding their opponents to an average of 65.0 ppg on 41.8% shooting from the field. The Dons have a rebound margin of 4.3 and a turnover margin of 1.6.
The Broncos are 7-2 ATS in their last 9 games following a straight up win and 12-5-1 ATS in their last 18 road games. The Dons are 15-5-1 ATS in their last 21 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points and 9-4-2 ATS in their last 15 home games.
Santa Clara has lost 4 of their last 7 games and although their defense has been decent as they rank 179th in scoring defense & 118th in defensive FG%, the Broncos have struggled offensively as they rank just 272nd in scoring offense.
San Francisco just got through a brutal 3-game stretch agianst some of the WCC best and although they couldn’t pick up a win, the Dons still have been solid on both ends of the court this season as they rank 101st in scoring offense, 61st in FG%, and 34th in scoring defense.
San Francisco is an impressive 11-1 at home this season and as I just don’t see the Santa Clara offense having much success against the Dons defense on the road, I think San Francisco bounces back here with a 15+ point victory and covers this spread. Good Luck!
