The Air Force Falcons and the San Jose State Spartans meet in Mountain West conference college basketball action from the San Jose State Event Center on Saturday night.
The Air Force Falcons will look to find some consistency after splitting their last 8 games, but took a step in the right direction with a 74-60 win over Boise State in their last outing. Lavelle Scottie led the Falcons with 22 points on 8 of 13 shooting with a team-high 7 rebounds and a pair of blocks while A.J. Walker added 18 points on 8 of 11 shooting with 4 assists and Chris Joyce added 12 points with 7 rebounds of his own to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Air Force in the winning effort. Sid Tomes added 7 rebounds of his own while Keaton Van Soelen chipped in 4 points and a team-high 5 assists as well in the victory. Scottie leads the Falcons in scoring with 13.9 points per game while Tomes leads Air Force in assists with 2.5 assists per game and Ryan Swan leads the Falcons in rebounding with 6.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Air Force is averaging 68.1 points per game on 47.3% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the arc and 69.9% from the foul line this season.
The San Jose State Spartans are in dire need of a win after losing their last 9 games following a 59-46 loss to Wyoming in their last outing. Michael Steadman led the Aztecs with 10 points on 5 of 13 shooting along with 8 rebounds as the lone Spartan to score in double figures in the losing effort. Craig LeCesne added 7 points with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a pair of steals as well in the loss. Steadman leads San Jose State with an average of 12.3 points and 8.4 rebounds per game while Brae Ivey leads the Spartans in the assists department with 3.5 assists per game this season. As a team, San Jose State is averaging 65 points per game on 40.8% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the 3-point line and 67.3% from the foul line this season.
Air Force is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a win while the over is 6-1 in their last 7 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400. San Jose State is 1-6 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games following a loss. The favorite is 8-2 ATS in the last 10 meetings between these two teams.
Air Force isn’t the kind of team I want to be laying points with on the road given my personal struggles with road favorites as of late, but this seems like a good opportunity to cash in on a road team. Granted, laying points with a team that’s 0-6 SU on the road is never ideal, but I think that just goes to speak to how bad San Jose State has been this season. The Spartans have lost their last 7 by double-digits, including each of their 6 conference games. The average margin of defeat by San Jose State in conference this year? 26.8 points per game. Yuck. No thanks. Air Force has been playing pretty well ATS as of late, so I think the Falcons can add another notch to San Jose State’s miserable season, in which case I’ll lay the points.
