The Idaho Vandals and the Santa Clara Broncos meet in college basketball action from Leavey Center on Friday night.
The Idaho Vandals will look to bounce back and snap a 3-game losing streak after an 89-80 loss to Omaha in their last outing. Trevon Allen led the Vandals with 15 points along with a team-high 8 rebounds while Geno West and Marquell Fraser each had 14 points with West adding a pair of threes while Fraser pulled down 6 rebounds and dished out a team-high 4 assists. Jared Rodriguez added 12 points on 4 of 6 shooting with a pair of threes while Rayquawndis Mitchell added 10 points on 3 of 6 from behind the arc to round out the scoring in double figures for Idaho in the losing effort. Allen leads the Vandals with an average of 14.6 points and 3.3 assists per game while Scott Blakney leads Idaho on the glass with 6 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Idaho is averaging 74.5 points per game on 47.5% shooting from the field, 34.9% from behind the 3-point line and 68.3% from the foul line this season.
The Santa Clara Broncos will look to add to their current 3-game winning streak after a 102-92 double overtime win over USC in their last outing. Trey Wertz led the Broncos with 28 points on 10 of 17 shooting with a pair of threes while Josip Vrankic added 22 points and 6 rebounds and Tahj Eaddy added 21 points on 7 of 12 shooting with 4 threes and a team-high 8 assists in the win. Guglielmo Caruso added 12 points on a perfect 4 of 4 shooting with 3 steals while Keshawn Justice added 11 points to round out the scoring in double figures for Santa Clara in the win. Eaddy leads the Broncos with an average of 16.1 points and 4.3 assists per game while Josh Martin leads Santa Clara in rebounding by averaging 10.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Santa Clara is averaging 73.2 points per game on 45% shooting from the field, 36.5% from behind the arc and 70.2% from the foul line this season.
Idaho is 1-9 ATS in their last 10 games overall and 1-7 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games while the over is 7-3 in their last 10 road games. Santa Clara is 7-17 ATS in their last 24 home games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 Friday games while the over is 15-6 in their last 21 games following a win.
Santa Clara hasn’t been stellar ATS at home, but they’re a better option than Idaho who hasn’t been stellar at all dating back to last season. The Broncos also have to be feeling themselves after their huge win over USC last time out. The Vandals are being outscored by 8.4 points per game on the road, so it wouldn’t surprise me to see Santa Clara win this one by double digits again at home so I’ll lay the points with the Broncos here.
