The Portland Pilots and the Santa Clara Broncos will meet up on the college basketball circuit Saturday.

Portland tumbles into this matchup at 7-16 on the season. The Pilots are on a nine-game losing streak right now, falling to San Diego, Gonzaga, San Francisco, Pacific and Pepperdine in their last five.

In the loss to the Waves, Portland didn’t have a scorer in double-figures, but JoJo Walker led the pack on nine points with one rebound and one assist. Franklin Porter added six points with five rebounds and five assists for the Pilots in that one.

Over on the Santa Clara side, they’re 11-11 on the year. The Broncos have lost four of their last five games, dropping to BYU, Saint Mary’s, Gonzaga and LMU during that stretch of outings.

In the loss to the Lions, Santa Clara’s lead scorer was Trey Wertz, with 13 points, five assists and two boards. Josh Martin doubled up for the Broncos on 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Tahj Eaddy added 10 points.

The Pilots are 2-7 ATS in the last nine overall and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 versus the West Coast. Portland is 1-6 ATS in their last seven road games and the over is 9-1-1 in their last 11 road games.

Meanwhile, the Broncos are 5-2 ATS in their last seven Saturday games and 5-2 ATS in the last seven home games. The under is 6-2 in Santa Clara’s last eight overall and 6-2 in the last eight versus the West Coast.

Portland has had some real trouble putting up points for most of the season. The Pilots scored 70 versus Pacific (74-70 loss), but otherwise haven’t hit that number since way back on December 8 in a win over Sac State.

Santa Clara isn’t much for scoring either, as they’ve logged fewer than 70 points in each of their last four games. There’s not a whole lot to like here, but I expect a low-scoring affair and I think there’s just enough room for Portland to get in there and cover.
