The Creighton Bluejays and the Seton Hall Pirates meet in Big East college basketball action from the Prudential Center on Saturday night.
The Creighton Bluejays will look to find some consistency after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games following a 66-59 overtime loss to Villanova in their last outing. Davion Mintz led the Bluejays with 19 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 3 threes along with 8 rebounds and a team-high 4 assists. Martin Krampelj came 2nd with 13 points on 6 of 8 shooting with a team-high 10 rebounds for the double-double while Mitch Ballock chipped in 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Creighton in the loss. Ty-Shon Alexander missed the game due to injury but still leads Creighton in scoring with 17 points per game while Krampelj leads the Bluejays in rebounding with 6.4 rebounds per game and Ballock leads the Bluejays in assists with 3.4 assists per game this season. As a team, Creighton is averaging 81.3 points per game on 50.2% shooting from the field and 41.4% from 3-point range, the 4th-best field goal percentage and 5th-best 3-point percentage in D-I this season. The Bluejays are also shooting 68.1% from the foul line this season.
The Seton Hall Pirates could use a win after losing 5 of their last 6 games following a 70-68 loss to Butler in their last outing. Myles Powell led the Pirates with 21 points on 8 of 18 shooting with 4 threes while Quincy McKnight and Myles Cale each had 13 points with McKnight adding a pair of threes and a team-high 5 assists while Cale had 3 steals. Michael Nzei added 10 points on 5 of 7 shooting to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for Seton Hall in the loss, while Romaro Gill grabbed a team-high 6 rebounds as well in the defeat. Powell leads Seton Hall in scoring with 21.6 points per game and McKnight leads the Pirates in assists with 3.8 assists per game while Sandro Mamukelashvili leads Seton Hall in rebounding with 7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Seton Hall is averaging 73.5 points per game on 45.5% shooting from the field, 32.9% from behind the arc and 70.7% from the foul line this season.
Creighton is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 6-18 ATS in their last 24 Saturday games while the over is 4-1 in their iast 5 games against a team with a winning record. Seton Hall is 0-6 ATS in their last 6 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall while the under is 5-1 in their last 6 conference games. The home team is 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
The home team has had all of the recent success between these two teams and I always say that home court in college is and should be weighted heavier when compared to pro sports. However, home court hasn’t mattered for Seton Hall lately, as the Pirates have failed to cover in each of their last 6 games at home. Creighton has been playing better as of late and have the offense to bury Seton Hall when the shots are falling. The line is low, but I genuinely expected Creighton to be favored here, so with that said, I’ll take the free bucket with Creighton in this one.
