The Marquette Golden Eagles and the Seton Hall Pirates meet in Big East college basketball action from the Prudential Center on Wednesday night.
The Marquette Golden Eagles will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 66-60 loss to Creighton in their last outing. Markus Howard led the Golden Eagles, accounting for more than half of the team’s offensive production with 33 points on 11 of 21 shooting with 4 threes, 3 asists and a pair of steals. Sam Hauser added 3 points with a team-high 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks and Joey Hauser added 6 points with a team-high 5 assists. Howard leads Marquette with an average of 25.5 points and 4 assists per game while Sam Hauser leads the Golden Eagles in rebounding with 7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Marquette is averaging 77.7 points per game on 46.8% shooting from the field, 39.8% from behind the arc and 76.8% from the foul line this season.
The Seton Hall Pirates will be out to snap a 3-game losing streak after a 77-71 double overtime loss to Georgetown last time out. Myles Powell led the Pirates with 35 points on 14 of 27 shooting with 4 threes while Sandro Mamukelashvili added 14 points with 11 rebounds as the only other Seton Hall player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Jared Rhoden added 9 points with 9 rebounds and 3 steals while Quincy McKnight chipped in a team-high 5 assists. Powell leads Seton Hall in scoring with 22.3 points per game while Mamukelashvili leads the Pirates in rebounding with 7.5 rebounds per game and McKnight leads the Pirates in assists with 4 helpers per game this season. As a team, Seton Hall is averaging 73.6 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 32.2% from behind the arc and 71.2% from the foul line this season.
Marquette is 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games and 14-6 ATS in their last 20 games overall while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 games following a loss. Seton Hall is 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games and 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games following a loss while the under is 7-2 in their last 9 games overall. Marquette is 6-1 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams at Seton Hall and the road team is 19-5-1 ATS in the last 25 meetings between these two teams.
Marquette has fallen off a bit with back-to-back losses, but even so, I’m still surprised to see Marquette favored with this low of a line. The Golden Eagles are still one of the top teams in the Big East, the country even, while Seton Hall has struggled ATS at home. Add in the amount of success Marquette has had in this venue and how much success the road team has had, and I think this is one of the easier picks on Wednesday’s card. Lay the points with Marquette in this one.
