The Monmouth Hawks and the Siena Saints meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the Times Union Center on Monday night.
The Monmouth Hawks will look to build on a 65-49 win over Manhattan in their last outing. Ray Salnave led the Hawks with 17 points along with 5 rebounds and 6 assists with a pair of blocks while Mustapha Traore added 10 points and a team-high 8 rebounds as the only other Monmouth player to score in double figures as well in the winning effort for the Hawks. Salnave leads Monmouth with an average of 12.4 points and 2.9 assists per game while Traore is the Hawks’ leading rebounder by averaging 5.2 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Monmouth is averaging 63.2 points per game on 40.4% shooting from the field, 27.1% from behind the 3-point line and 68.6% from the foul line this season.
The Siena Saints will be looking to build some steam after picking up a 71-66 win over Marist in their last outing. Evan Fisher led the Saints with 23 points on an efficient 8 of 10 shooting night with a pair of threes while Sloan Seymour added 12 points on 4 of 10 shooting from 3-point range as the only other Siena player to score in double figures in the winning effort. Jalen Pickett added 9 points with team-highs of 6 rebounds and 8 assists with a pair of steals while Georges Darwiche, Kevin Degnan and Manny Camper each had 9 points as well. Fisher leads the Saints with an average of 17.1 points and 7 rebounds per game while Pickett leads Siena in assists with 7.4 helpers per game this season. As a team, Siena is averaging 65.2 points per game on 44.6% shooting from the field, 34% from 3-point range and 62.8% from the foul line this season.
Monmouth is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games and 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 6-2 in their last 8 games following a win. Siena is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games following a win while the under is 11-2 in their last 13 home games against a team with a losing road record. The road team is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and Monmouth is 3-0-1 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams at Siena.
Siena cashed in big for me against Marist, but the Saints haven’t been great at home this season and the Hawks have a history of owning the Saints ATS, either winning outright or keeping the game close. In the 8 meetings since March 2015, Monmouth is 7-1 SU and the lone Siena win was by just 4 points. Given that history, I’ll take a shot with Monmouth and the points to keep this one close if not win it outright.
