The Niagara Purple Eagles and the Siena Saints meet in college basketball MAAC-tion from the Times Union Center on Thursday night.
The Niagara Purple Eagles come into this game looking to get back to .500 after losing 4 of their last 5 games with a 104-84 loss to Rider last time out. Keleaf Tate led the Purple Eagles with 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 5 threes while James Towns added 15 points with a team-high 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Marvin Prochet added 10 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Niagara in the loss. Greg Kuakumensah added 4 points and 5 rebounds of his own as well in the losing effort. Towns leads Niagara with an average of 12.5 points and 4.5 assists per game while Dominic Robb leads the Purple Eagles in rebounding with 6.1 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Niagara is averaging 73.6 points per game on 40.8% shooting from the field, 32.4% from 3-point range and 74.9% from the foul line this season.
The Siena Saints come into this one looking to rebound after falling to Monmouth in their last outing by a final score of 63-60 in overtime. Kevin Degnan led the Saints with 17 pints on 5 of 7 shooting from behind the arc with a team-high 7 rebounds while Jalen Pickett added 15 points with 5 threes of his own along with team-highs of 7 rebounds, 6 assists, 3 steals and a pair of blocks. Evan Fished shipper in 12 points to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Siena as well in the losing effort. Fisher leads Siena with an average of 16.8 points and 6.8 rebounds per game while Pickett leads Siena with an average of 7.3 assists per game this season. As a team, Siena is averaging 64.9 points per game on 44.4% shooting from the field, 34.7% from 3-point range and 60.5% from the foul line this season.
Niagara is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall and 2-5 ATS in their last 8 games against a team with a winning percentage below .400 while the over is 13-3 in their last 16 conference games. Siena is 6-15-1 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a losing record and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 home games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 conference games. Niagara is 3-1-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
I get that home court is weighted more heavily in college sports than it is in the pros, but to be honest, I’m not sure why Siena is this much of a favorite here. Niagara has struggled as of late, sure, but the Purple Eagles are 5-3 ATS on the road this season and are scoring 8.7 more points per game than Siena is this season. Niagara has also had the upper hand on the Saints in recent meetings, so I’ll take a shot with Niagara and the points in a game where I’d also sprinkle a little bit on Niagara on the money line as well.
