The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles and the SMU Mustangs meet in college basketball action from the Moody Coliseum on Sunday afternoon.
The Oral Roberts Golden Eagles will look to build some momentum after a 78-69 overtime win over James Madison in their last outing. Emmanuel Nzekwesi led the Golden Eagles with 22 points on 8 of 12 shooting with a 6 of 6 mark from the foul line, 12 rebounds and 3 assists for the double-double while Kevin Obanor added 13 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double of his own as the only other Oral Roberts player to finish in double figures scoring in the winning effort. Sam Kearns added 7 points with a team-high 4 assists as well in the win for Oral Roberts. Nzekwesi leads the Golden Eagles in scoring with 14.4 points as well as a team-high 7.4 rebounds while Kaelen Malone leads Oral Roberts with an average of 3.7 assists per game this season. As a team, Oral Roberts is scoring 72.7 points per game on 44.2% shooting from the field, 30.7% from behind the 3-point line and 64.9% from the foul line this season.
The SMU Mustangs will look to build on their 3-game winning streak after a 91-59 win over McNeese State in their last outing. Jahmal McMurray led the Mustangs with 19 points on 7 of 13 shooting with 5 threes while Isiaha Mike came right behind with 18 points on 7 of 11 shooting with 3 triples. Jimmy Whitt Jr. added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists for the triple-double while Ethan Chargois added 11 points to round out the quartet of double-digit scorers for SMU in the win. McMurray leads SMU in scoring with 18.8 points per game while Chargois leads the Mustangs on the glass with 6.8 rebounds per game and Whitt Jr. leads SMU in assists with 4.5 assists per game this season. As a team, SMU is averaging 76.6 points per game on 47% shooting from the field, 36.7% from behind the 3-point line and 68% from the foul line this season.
Oral Roberts is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games against a team with a winning record while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 non-conference games. SMU is 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Sunday games while the over is 7-0 in their last 7 games overall.
Oral Roberts got a solid win in their last outing, but the problem for the Golden Eagles is that they still struggle against teams that are a step-up in competition. SMU does a good job of beating up on teams that they should beat up on, and are the better team offensively here, so I’ll lay the points with the Mustangs in this spot.
