Wichita State at SMU

SMU Moody Coliseum
SMU Mustangs -3.5
The Wichita State Shockers and the SMU Mustangs will meet up on the college basketball court Sunday.
Wichita State currently sits at 14-13 this year. The Shockers are 2-1 in their last three games, with a loss to Memphis sandwiched between wins over Tulsa and Connecticut.
In the win over the Huskies, Wichita State’s lead scorer was Samajae Haynes-Jones on 20 points with three rebounds and one assist. Markis McDuffie added 19 points for the Shockers there, and Jamarius Burton provided 11 points with eight boards.
Over on the SMU side, they’re 13-14 this year. The Mustangs are just 1-6 in their last seven games, with losses to Wichita State, Cincinnati, South Florida, UCF, Temple, UConn, UCF and Cincinnati in succession during that time.
In the loss to the Bearcats, SMU’s Jahmal McMurray was the only player on the team in double-figures with 27 points, two rebounds and one assist. Jimmy Whitt logged nine rebounds and six points for the Mustangs in that one as well.
The Shockers are 4-1 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 22-6-1 ATS in their last 29 Sunday games. Wichita State is 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight overall and 0-3-1 ATS in their last four after an ATS loss.
Meanwhile, the Mustangs are 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 overall and 3-7-1 ATS in their last 11 versus the AAC. SMU is 0-6 ATS in their last six Sunday games and 0-4 ATS in their last four after an ATS win.
Outside of the Cincinnati game, the Shockers have been on a pretty good run since beating SMU 85-83 at home in late January. Wichita State’s only other loss came 88-85 to Memphis, a game they could have taken if not for a second-half fade.
Considering SMU just hasn’t looked like themselves lately (they have faced a few tough opponents, though), I don’t think it’s crazy to take Wichita State on the road cover here.
