The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers and the South Alabama Jaguars will match up on the college basketball court Saturday.
Coastal Carolina comes into this one at 7-6 overall. The Chanticleers are 2-2 over their last four games, falling to Wofford and Charleston while taking out NC Central and Troy in that time.
In the Trojans game, Coastal Carolina’s Tyrell Gumbs-Frater put up 20 points and two rebounds to lead the team. Zac Cuthbertson logged 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists while David Kralj added 15 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Over on the South Alabama side, they’re 8-6 this season. The Jaguars’ only loss over the last five games was to Richmond, but otherwise they’ve taken out Tulane, Alabama A&M, Mobile and Appalachian State.
In the Mountaineers game, South Alabama’s Rodrick Sikes topped the team on 21 points with three rebounds. Both Trhae Mitchell (16 points; 10 rebounds) and Josh Ajayi (15 points; 12 rebounds; eight assists) doubled up for South Alabama in that one.
Coastal Carolina is 6-0 ATS in the last six road games and 7-1 ATS in their last eight overall. The Chanticleers are 4-1 ATS in their last five following an ATS win and the over is 5-0 in their last five road games.
Meanwhile, the Jaguars are 1-4 ATS in their last five following a straight-up win and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six versus the Sun Belt. South Alabama is 1-5 ATS in their last six Saturday games and the under is 9-4 in their last 13 overall.
The Chanticleers have been something of a hit-and-miss team this season without a lot of genuine consistency, but they did look good against a decent Troy team in their last outing.
As for the Jaguars, they hit the wall against Richmond but otherwise have been pretty solid over their last five games, and have a nice set of top-end players.
Realistically I’m staying away from this one but I’ll give South Alabama a slight edge on the cover.
