South Dakota State Jackrabbits -18 -- Over/Under: 155.5
The Denver Pioneers will travel to Frost Arena to take on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits this Thursday night in College Basketball action.
The Denver Pioneers lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 5-13 (0-4 Summit) on the season after being defeated by the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, 80-59, this past Saturday. Denver had no answers on the defensive end against the North Dakota and couldn’t fight back after going into halftime trailing by a 44-25 margin. Denver allowed North Dakota to shot 48.3% from the field & 48.4% from beyond the arc and committed 18 turnovers in the loss. Leading the way for the Pioneers was Ronnie Harrell Jr. who had 11 points, 2 rebounds, and an assist in 16 minutes from off the bench.
On the season, Denver is averaging 68.2 ppg on 43.5% shooting from the field. The Pioneers are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 37.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Denver has been led by Ronnie Harrell Jr. (13.5 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 2.3 apg), Joe Rosga (12.2 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.5 apg, 1.2 spg), Ade Murkey (11.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 2.2 apg), and Troy Miller-Stewart (9.1 ppg, 4.9 rpg).
Defensviely, Denver is allowing their opponents to average 77.6 ppg on 47.4% shooting from the field. The Pioneers have a rebound margin of 1.4 and a turnover margin of -3.2.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits improved to 12-6 (2-1 Summit) on the season after defeating the South Dakota Coyotes, 79-61, this past Sunday. South Dakota State had no trouble taking care of business on both sides of the court agianst the Coyotes and pulled away for victory after a 12-0 Jackrabbits run gave South Dakota State a 53-33 lead with 12:07 left in regulation. South Dakota State shot 46.9% from the field while holding South Dakota to 32.8% shooting from the field & 32.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Jackrabbits was Skyler Flatten who had 20 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals.
On the season, South Dakota State is averaging 85.4 ppg on 50.5% shooting from the field. The Jackrabbits are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 42.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Dakota State has been led by Mike Daum (23.7 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 1.7 apg), David Jenkins (19.7 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 1.4 apg), Skyler Flatten (15.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.1 spg), and Tevin King (9.3 ppg, 6.5 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.3 spg).
Defensively, South Dakota State is allowing their opponents to average 72.4 ppg on 39.9% shooting from the field. The Jackrabbits have a rebound margin of 6.2 and a turnover margin of -0.7.
The Pioneers are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 Thursday games and 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record. The Jackrabbits are 23-8 ATS in their last 31 games vs. Summit opponents and 21-8 ATS in their last 29 home games.
It’s been a disappointing season for Denver as they’ve lost 6 of their last 7 games and currently rank just 298th in scoring offense & 304th in scoring defense. South Dakota State has been alternating wins & losses over the past month, however, there is no denying that the Jackrabbits have one of the most explosive offenses in the Summit as they currently rank 12th in scoring offense, 11th in FG%, and 4th in 3P-FG%.
Denver has looked loss on both ends of the court as of late and going into Frost Arena to take on Mike Daum and the Jackrabbits is probably not the answer that the Pioneers are looking for. Denver is 1-8 on the road this season and just 4-12-1 ATS on the year and as I don’t see any way how the Pioneers defense is going to slow down the Jackrabbits offense in this one, I’m taking South Dakota State to cover this large spread.
