The North Dakota State Bison will travel to Frost Arena to take on the South Dakota State Jackrabbits this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The North Dakota State Bison improved to 9-11 (3-3 Summit) on the season after defeating the North Dakota Fighting Hawks, 67-64, this past Saturday. North Dakota State was solid on the defensive end against the Fighting Hawks and was able to secure the victory after holding North Dakota scoreless over the final 3:24 of regulation. North Dakota State shot 44.4% from the field, while holding North Dakota to just 38.3% shooting from the field & 30.0% shooting from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Bison was Deng Geu who had 15 points, 8 rebounds, & 1 block in 21 minutes from off the bench.

On the season, North Dakota State is averaging 73.3 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Bison are averaging 8.8 three-pointers per game on 34.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, North Dakota State has been led by Deng Geu (11.9 ppg, 5.4 rpg, 1.0 bpg), Tyson Ward (11.5 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.5 apg), Vinnie Shahid (10.9 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 2.6 apg), and Rocky Kreuser (10.5 ppg, 3.4 rpg).

Defensively, North Dakota State is allowing their opponents to average 73.3 ppg on 45.3% shooting from the field. The Bison have a rebound margin of -0.6 and a turnover margin of -1.0.

The South Dakota State Jackrabbits won their 4th straight game and improved to 15-6 (5-1 Summit) on the season after defeating the North Dakota Fighting Hawks on January 16th. South Dakota State allowed North Dakota to fight back in the game after holding a 41-31 halftime lead, however, the Jackrabbits were able to pull away after taking a 73-65 lead with 4:26 left in regulation. South Dakota State shot 48.3% from the field and outrebounded North Dakota by a 41-30 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Jackrabbits was Mike Daum who had a monster double-double with 34 points, 21 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks.

On the season, South Dakota State is averaging 84.7 ppg on 50.4% shooting from the field. The Jackrabbits are averaging 9.8 three-pointers per game on 41.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Dakota State has been led by Mike Daum (24.2 ppg, 10.9 rpg, 1.7 apg), David Jenkins (19.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.3 apg), Skyler Flatten (15.2 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.8 apg, 1.0 spg), and Tevin King (9.2 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 4.4 apg, 1.7 spg).

Defensively, South Dakota State is allowing their opponents to average 71.8 ppg on 40.2% shooting from the field. The Jackrabbits have a rebound margin of 5.4 and a turnover margin of -0.3.

The Bison are 16-35-1 ATS in their last 52 games following a straight up win and just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Jackrabbits are 16-5 ATS in their last 21 games following a ATS loss and 22-9 ATS in their last 31 home games.

North Dakota State has won 3 of their last 4 games, however, this is a team that has struggled on both sides of the ball this season as they rank just T-187th in scoring offense, 225th in scoring defense, and 313th in defensive FG%. South Dakota State has won 5 of their last games and has the most explosive offense in the Summit as they currently rank 14th in scoring offense, 6th in FG%, and 5th in 3P-FG%.

North Dakota State might have been able to pick up some wins recently, however, they are 0-7 on the road this season and is recently coming off an embarrassing 15-point road defeat to a Denver team that is currently just 7-14 on the season. South Dakota State has the best player in the Summit in Mike Daum and as I just don’t see the Bison defense being able to slow down the various offensive weapons that the Jackrabbits have, I’m taking South Dakota State to cover this large home spread.

Pick:
South Dakota State Jackrabbits -12
