The South Dakota State Jackrabbits will travel to Sanford Coyote Sports Center to take on the South Dakota Coyotes this Saturday night in College Basketball action.
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits dropped to 11-6 (1-1 Summit) on the season after being defeated by the IUPUI Jaguars, 104-88, this past Thursday. South Dakota State struggled defensively against the Jaguars and couldn’t fight back after IUPUI took an 81-58 lead with 10:52 left in regulation. South Dakota State allowed IUPUI to shoot 57.1% from the field and 43.6% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Jackrabbits was Mike Daum who had 29 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal, and a block.
On the season, South Dakota State is averaging 85.8 ppg on 50.7% shooting from the field. The Jackrabbits are averaging 9.6 three-pointers per game on 42.3% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, South Dakota State has been led by Mike Daum (24.9 ppg, 10.6 rpg, 1.7 apg), David Jenkins (20.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 1.4 apg), Skyler Flatten (14.9 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 1.6 apg, 1.0 spg), and Tevin King (9.1 ppg, 6.7 rpg, 4.5 apg).
Defensively, South Dakota State is allowing their opponents to average 73.1 ppg on 40.3% shooting from the field. The Coyotes have a rebound margin of 5.9 and a turnover margin of -0.8.
The South Dakota Coyotes snapped their 3-game losing streak after defeating the Denver Pioneers, 71-70, this past Wednesday. In a tight back and forth game in the 2nd half, South Dakota was able to secure the victory on a game-winning layup by Cody Kelley with :07 seconds left in regulation. South Dakota shot 46.3% from the field & 52.2% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Coyotes was Triston Simpson who had 20 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 steals.
On the season, South Dakota is averaging 66.0 ppg on 43.3% shooting from the field. The Coyotes are averaging 6.4 three-pointers per game on 32.1% shooting from beyond the arc. The Jackrabbits are 14-5 ATS in their last 19 games following an ATS loss and 22-8 ATS in their last 30 games vs. Summit League opponents. The Coyotes are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 Sunday games, however, are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
South Dakota State has won just 3 of their last 5 games, however, two of those losses have come against very good teams in Nevada & Montana. The Jackrabbits have one of the more explosive offenses in the country as they rank 12th in scoring offense & 9th in FG%, however, the defense can give up some points as they rank just 217th in scoring defense. South Dakota has lost 5 of their last 8 games although their defense has been solid, their offense ranks just 326th in scoring offense & 245th in FG%.
South Dakota State has the best player in the Summit in Mike Daum and as I’ve just not been impressed by how the Coyotes have looked this season, I think South Dakota State will be able to do enough on the road to give this mid-range spread.
