The Western Illinois Leathernecks and the South Dakota Coyotes will match up on the college basketball circuit Saturday.

Western Illinois enters this game at 7-13 on the year. Following a four-game losing streak versus Oral Roberts, ND State, North Dakota and Omaha, the Leathernecks got a win in their last outing versus Fort Wayne.

In the win over the Mastodons, Western Illinois’ CJ Duff went off for 30 points with four rebounds. Also in double-figures for the Leathernecks in that one were Kobe Webster (16 points; seven assists; five rebounds) and Zion Young (10 points).

Over on the South Dakota side, they’re 9-11 this season. After falling to Oral Roberts 77-74 and Omaha 75-68, the Coyotes managed a win in their last outing Wednesday versus North Dakota 70-56.

In the victory over the Hawks, South Dakota’s top scorers were Triston Simpson and Brandon Armstrong, each with 13 points and a combined four assists and nine rebounds between them. Stanley Umude added 12 points for the Coyotes in that one.

The Leathernecks are 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 after an ATS win and 14-35-2 ATS in their last 51 Saturday games. Western Illinois is 1-4 ATS in the last five overall and 0-6 ATS in their last six road games.

Meanwhile, the Coyotes are 2-6 ATS in their last eight versus the Summit and 2-7 ATS in their last nine overall. South Dakota is also 1-4 ATS in their last five after a straight-up win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven after an ATS win.

Western Illinois surprised a lot of people with that beatdown of a good Fort Wayne team. The Leathernecks were up 44-27 at halftime and kept pouring it on with a 43-31 second half. Compared to their previous four games, it was greatly out of character.

South Dakota is coming back home after a few games away, and should be able to build off the win against North Dakota. I’m going to say the Leathernecks come back to earth here and take the Coyotes on the cover.
