The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks and Jacksonville Dolphins will face off at the Mitchell Center this Friday evening in the South Alabama Tournament.

The Southeast Missouri State Redhawks won their first game of the season and improved to 1-2 on the season after defeating the D-II Quincy Hawks, 102-66, this past Monday. Southeast Missouri State had no trouble putting points up on the scoreboard and easily cruised to victory in the 2nd half after taking a 53-32 halftime lead. Southeast Missouri State shot 62.9% from the field and 50.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. The Redhawks outrebounded Quincy by a 34-31 margin and committed just 7 turnovers in the victory. Leading the way for the Redhawks was Alex Caldwell who had 15 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists, and a steal in 21 minutes from off the bench.

On the season, Southeast Missouri State is averaging 74.7 ppg on 46.3% shooting from the field. The Redhawks are averaging 8.3 three-pointers per game on 36.8% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Southeast Missouri State has been led by Ledarrius Brewer (13.0 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 2.3 apg), Alex Caldwell (11.7 ppg, 2.7 rpg, 2.3 apg), and Sage Tolbert (9.3 ppg, 5.7 rpg). Defensively, Southeast Missouri State is allowing their opponents to average 69.7 ppg on 41.2% shooting from the field. The Redhawks have a rebound margin of -0.7 and a turnover margin of 0.3.

The Jacksonville Dolphins are still searching for their first win of the season as they fell to 0-3 on the young season after being defeated by the Grand Canyon Antelopes, 76-59, this past Monday. Jacksonville was dominated in the frontcourt by the Antelopes and couldn’t fight back after entering halftime trailing by a 41-22 margin. Jacksonville struggled offensively as they shot just 38.9% from the field and 22.7% shooting from beyond the arc. The Dolphins were outrebounded by a 52-25 margin and committed 13 turnovers in the loss. Leading he way for the Dolphins was Tyreese Davis who had 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks.

On the season, Jacksonville is averaging 63.7 ppg on 40.7% shooting from the field. The Dolphins are averaging 4.3 three-pointers per game on 21.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Jacksonville has been led by Jace Hogan (12.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 1.0 apg), Jalyn Hinton (9.3 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 2.7 bpg), and JD Notae (9.0 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.7 apg, 2.3 spg). Defensively, Jacksonville is allowing their opponents to average 79.3 ppg on 46.4% shooting from the field. The Dolphins have a rebound margin of -13.0 and a turnover margin of -1.7.

The Redhawks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 non-conference games and 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points. The Dolphins are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning % below .400 however, are just 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win.

I don’t think Jacksonville is as bad as the early season numbers might show, however, it’s hard to back a team that is getting less than 3 points, who is shooting just 21.0% from beyond the arc and has been getting absolutely killed on the boards. Southeast Missouri State has some talent in Ledarrius Brewer & Alex Caldwell and between the fact that they should have an advantage in the front court and were competitive in road games against St. Louis & Bradley, I’m taking Southeast Missouri State to cover this small spread.

Southeast Missouri State Redhawks -2.5
