The Tennessee State Tigers visit the Southeast Missouri State Redbirds in Sunday college basketball.
The Tennessee State Tigers need an immediate change in momentum to leave a four game slide in their rear view mirror. Tennessee State comes off a 63-60, overtime loss at the UTM Martin Skyhawks as a 1.5 point favorite on Thursday. The Tigers held a slight 38.2%-34.9% shooting edge but the Skyhawks eight more shots and eight more free throws were decisive.
Tennessee State was balanced offensively with Ken’Darrius Hamilton scoring 12 points on 4-7 from beyond the arc with Kamar McKnight and Darreon Reddick tossing in eleven points apiece with a combined six pulls while Reddick handed out seven helpers. Christian Mekowulu gave the Tigers ten points and nine rebounds followed by Delano Spencer with nine points.
The Southeast Missouri State Redbirds are not playing well at the start of conference action which is never a good thing. Southeast Missouri State has dropped four in a row after opening OVC play with a 94-72 loss to the visiting Belmont Bruins as an eight point underdog. The Redhawks were outshot 60%-40.7% which was a difference of 12 field goals.
SE Missouri State was led in the scoring column by Ledarrius Brewer with 21 points on 7-11 from the floor including a 6-9 effort on long balls. The Redbirds saw Denzel Mahoney pump in 19 points and haul in eight rebounds on 5-13 with a 7-10 mark at the stripe while Daniel Simmons and Isaiah Gable combined for 19 points.
Under is 7-1 in Tennessee State last 8 vs. Ohio Valley and Tennessee State are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 Sunday games and under is 10-3 in Tennessee State last 13 Sunday games. Over is 8-2 in SEMO last 10 home games and SEMO are 14-4-1 ATS in their last 19 Sunday games and SEMO are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 vs. Ohio Valley.
Neither team makes me confident and I suppose the Redbirds will play well at home but I’ll take the points…
