Southern Illinois Salukis -7 -- Over/Under: 134
The Evansville Purple Aces and the Southern Illinois Salukis meet in MVC college basketball action from the SIU Arena on Saturday night.
The Evansville Purple Aces could use a win after losing 5 of their last 6 games following an 85-62 loss to Indiana State in their last outing. Dainius Chatkevicius led the Aces with 12 points along with a team-high 6 rebounds while K.J. Riley added 11 points and Marty Hill had 10 points with a pair of threes and a pair of steals to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Evansville in the loss. Shamar Givance also had a team-high 4 assists as well in the losing effort. Riley leads Evansville with an average of 14 points and 3.1 assists per game while John Hall leads the Purple Aces in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Evansville is averaging 71.3 points per game on 42.3% shooting from the field, 33.5% from behind the arc and 72.9% from the foul line this season.
The Southern Illinois Salukis will look to find some consistency after splitting their last 6 games following a 65-59 loss to Missouri State in their last outing. Kavion Pippen led the Salukis with 24 points on 11 of 19 shooting with a team-high 10 rebounds while Aaron Cook added 11 points as the only other Southern Illinois player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Pippen leads SIU in scoring with 11.9 points per game while Cook leads the Salukis in assists with 3.6 assists per game and Eric McGill leads Southern Illinois in rebounding with 6 boards per game this season. As a team, Southern Illinois is averaging 67.7 points per game on 46.5% shooting from the field, 37.8% from behind the 3-point line and 68.6% from the foul line this season.
Evansville is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 5-1 in their last 6 conference games. Southern Illinois is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall. Evansville is 7-1 ATS in the last 8 meetings between these two teams and 5-0 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams at Southern Illinois.
Southern Illinois has had issues with consistency as of late, while the one thing that the Aces have done consistently lately is lose basketball games, so I can understand Southern Illinois being favored at home. However, sometimes to get things turned around, a team can get up for a game against a team they know they have a positive history against. These guys don’t go around following betting trends I’m guessing, but Evansville has covered in 7 of the last 8 meetings and each of the last 5 meetings between these two teams at SIU Arena. I just think the trends are telling us that the points hold some value here, so I’ll take them with Evansville in this one.
