The Saint Louis Billikens will travel to SIU Arena to take on the Southern Illinois Salukis this Wednesday night in College Basketball action.
The Saint Louis Billikens won their 2nd straight game and improved to 6-1 on the season after an impressive 64-52 victory at home agianst the Butler Bulldogs this past Saturday. Saint Louis was outstanding on the defensive end of the ball and had no trouble securing the victory after taking a 51-36 lead with 6:00 left in regulation. Saint Louis shot 46.5% from the field while holding Butler to 28.1% shooting from the field and 16.7% shooting from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Billikens was Javon Bess who had 18 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Saint Louis is averaging 68.9 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Billikens are averaging 5.4 three-pointers per game on 31.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Southern Illinois had their way on the offensive end against the SIU-Edwardsville defense and was able to pull away for the victory after a 5-0 Salukis run gave Southern Illinois a 66-48 lead with 5:08 left in regulation. Southern Illinois shot 59.6% from the field and 55.0% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Salukis was Armon Fletcher who had 24 points, 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal.
On the season, Southern Illinois is averaging 72.3 ppg on 49.3% shooting from the field. The Salukis are averaging 8.0 three-pointers per game on 42.1% shooting from beyond the arc. This is not the same Saint Louis team we’ve seen in past years as with a bunch of transfers finally eligible to play for the Billikens, Travis Ford has St. Louis primed to contend for a A-10 championship behind a defense that ranks 29th in scoring defense and 13th in defensive FG%. Southern Illinois is also a very good defense team that works for solid shots and currently rank in the top-100 in both offensive and defensive FG%. I think this is going to be a low-scoring tight battle and because of that, I’m going to take Saint Louis and the points in this one.
