The Southern Illinois Salukis host the Valparaiso Crusaders in a MVC college basketball bout on Saturday.

The Valparaiso Crusaders have kicked off Missouri Valley play with a 3-0 start after downing Bradley 61-50 on Tuesday as a two point home favorite.

Valparaiso jumped to a 31-18 lead heading to the intermission and were never challenged behind 49% marksmanship.

Javon Freeman was the lone Crusaders double digit scorer with 17 points while Markus Golder supplied nine points and eight rebounds.

Deion Lavender gave Valparaiso eight points, five board and five assists followed three players scored six points apiece with six helpers and eight rebounds.

The Southern Illinois Salukis never got their defense going in an 82-70 loss at Drake on Tuesday as a 2.5 point underdog to fall to 2-1 in the MVC.

Southern Illinois trailed by 21 points at the halfway point and a second half rally fell far short with the Bulldogs owning a 54.7%-46% shooting edge.

Armon Fletcher was the Salukis best offensive weapon with 21 points and three yanks while Eric McGill added 17 points and six boards.

Kavion Pippen gave Southern Illinois 12 points, five pulls and four blocks followed by Aaron Cook and Darius Beane with seven points each with Beane grabbing six rebounds.

Valparaiso Crusaders are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a straight up win and Valparaiso Crusaders are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. Southern Illinois Salukis are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and Southern Illinois Salukis are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 vs. Missouri Valley.

This is simply in the realm of giving too many points away for my liking…

Valparaiso +8

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
