Southern Miss Golden Eagles +1 O/U: 151
The Marshall Thundering Herd and the Southern Miss Golden Eagles will meet up in college basketball activity on Saturday.
Marshall is currently sitting at 12-8 on the year. Following wins over Old Dominion, Charlotte, Western Kentucky, Florida Atlantic and FIU, the Herd have lost their last two versus Western Kentucky and LA Tech.
In the loss to the Bulldogs, Marshall’s CJ Burks had a great statistical night with 29 points, 12 rebounds and four assists. Adding 14 points for the Herd was Taevion Kinsey, and Jannson Williams put up 11 points with eight boards.
Over on the Southern Miss side, they’re 11-9 this season. The Eagles had a three-game win streak going versus Middle Tennessee, UAB and Charlotte but have lost their last two versus Old Dominion and Western Kentucky.
In the loss to the Hilltoppers, Southern Miss’ Leonard Harper-Baker led the team with a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds. LaDavius Draine was the only other Eagle in double-figures on 15 points with six rebounds.
Marshall is 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine after an ATS loss and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six after a straight-up loss. The Herd are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six overall.
Meanwhile, the Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last five home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five overall. Southern Miss is 1-4 ATS in their last five versus CUSA and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 after an ATS loss.
Marshall is pretty consistent putting up points this year (except for the 59 versus WKU and a handful of other outings), and it seems like they’re more comfortable in higher-paced shootouts.
Southern Miss probably can’t give the Herd that type of game however, so expect the Eagles to try and slow things down. All things considered, I have to stick with Marshall here. Both teams are pretty crummy ATS lately, though.
