Southern Jaguars PK
The Alabama State Hornets and the Southern Jaguars will meet up on the college basketball court Monday.
Alabama State enters this one on a 10-14 mark so far. The Hornets won consecutive games versus MS Valley and Alabama A&M, but then dropped their last outing in OT to Alcorn State.
In the loss to the Braves, Alabama State’s top scorer was Jacoby Ross with 21 points, six rebounds and one assist. Reginald Gee added 16 points with four rebounds and two assists for the Hornets there as well.
Over on the Southern side, they’re currently 5-22 this year. The Jaguars are 2-2 over their last four games, with losses to AR-Pine Bluff and MS Valley sandwiched between wins over Jackson State and Alabama A&M.
In the win over the Bulldogs, Southern’s Sidney Umude led the team on 18 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Richard Lee also finished in double-figures for the Jaguars with his 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Hornets are 5-2 ATS in the last seven after a straight-up loss and 2-5 ATS in their last seven overall. Alabama State is also 2-5 ATS in they last seven versus the Southwestern Athletic and the under is 8-3 in their last 11 road games.
Meanwhile, the Jags are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games and 4-1 ATS in their last five at home versus a team with a losing road record. Southern is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 after a straight-up win and 1-6 ATS in the last seven after an ATS win.
The last time these teams met up was a 69-65 home win for the Hornets back on January 28, and things were pretty tight in the first half. Southern even went into the break with a one-point lead.
Still, even with the home lift, Southern just doesn’t have the firepower to put up 70-plus points totals consistently. Even though the Hornets aren’t much more reliable, I’m going to go with Alabama State on the cover here.
