St. Bonaventure Bonnies -3 -- Over/Under: 129
The George Mason Patriots and the St. Bonaventure Bonnies meet in an A-10 conference tournament quarterfinal matchup in college basketball action from the Barclays Center on Friday afternoon.
The #5-seed George Mason Patriots enter the quarterfinals after picking up a 61-57 win over George Washington in second round action on Thursday. Justin Kier led the Patriots with 26 points on 10 of 14 shooting with 8 rebounds and a team-high 5 assists while Otis Livingston II added 12 points as the only other double-digit scorer for George Mason in the win. Jordan Miller added 4 points with a team-high 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks as well in the victory. Heading into Thursday, Kier led the Patriots with 13.9 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while Livingston II leads George Mason in assists with 4.2 assists per game this season. As a team, George Mason is averaging 70.8 points per game on 44.9% shooting from the field, 33.2% from behind the 3-point line and 72.1% from the foul line.
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies come into the conference tournament as the #4 seed, finishing the regular season with a 16-15 overall record, including 12-6 in conference play to finish 4th, earning the crucial double-bye in the A-10 tournament. St. Bonaventure had a rough go at it in the non-conference portion of their schedule with losses to Syracuse, Boise State and Buffalo just to name a few. The Bonnies started conference play by splitting their first 10 games at 5-5 but finished with wins in 7 of 8 games to finish the year with the top-4 position. Courtney Stockard led St. Bonaventure in scoring with 15.4 points per game while Kyle Lofton had 14.2 points while leading the Bonnies in assists with 3.6 assists per game. Jalen Poyser had 10.4 points per game and LaDarien Griffin had 10.2 points per game as St. Bonaventure’s 4th double-digit scorer. Osun Osunniyi led the Bonnies on the glass with 7.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, St. Bonaventure is averaging 66.5 points per game on 43.3% shooting from the field, 32.2% from behind the arc and 72.9% from the foul line this season.
George Mason is 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall and 0-4 ATS in their last 4 neutral site games while the over is 59-28 in their last 87 conference games. St. Bonaventure is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 neutral site games and 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 6-0 in their last 6 conference games. The favorite is 9-0 ATS in the last 9 meetings between these two teams.
These two teams split the regular season series, and this should be one of the more intriguing matchups out of the A-10 on Friday. However, George Mason really had to grind it out against George Washington, and while you could say that St. Bonaventure could have some rust after a long layoff, I’d personally rather have a rested team rather than a team that played yesterday. Rest is key in these tournament spots, and given that the line is so small, I’d lay the points with St. Bonaventure in this spot.
