The Pepperdine Waves will travel to McKeon Pavilion to take on the season Saint Mary’s Gaels this Saturday night in College Basketball action.

The Pepperdine Waves dropped to 12-14 (5-7 WCC) on the season after being defeated by the San Francisco Dons, 89-77, this past Thursday. Pepperdine led by a 44-36 margin at halftime, however, struggled offensively in the 2nd half and couldn’t fight back after a 13-0 Dons run gave San Francisco an 85-71 lead with just 1:00 minute left in regulation. Pepperdine allowed San Francisco to shoot 53.4% from the field and 53.8% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Waves was Colbey Ross who had 21 points, 3 rebounds, and 9 assists.

On the season, Pepperdine is averaging 76.7 ppg on 44.4% shooting from the field. The Waves are averaging 9.1 three-pointers per game on 37.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Pepperdine has been led by Colbey Ross (18.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 7.4 apg, 1.2 spg), Kameron Edwards (16.9 ppg, 7.3 rpg, 1.0 apg), Eric Cooper Jr. (11.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg), and Kessler Edwards (10.0 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.1 apg, 1.1 spg).

Defensively, Pepperdine is allowing their opponents to average 73.9 ppg on 45.6% shooting from the field. The Waves have a rebound margin of -3.7 and a turnover margin of 2.7.

The Saint Mary’s Gaels improved to 16-10 (7-4 WCC) on the season after defeating the Santa Clara Broncs, 66-55, this past Thursday. Saint Mary’s led by a 33-26 margin at halftime and pulled away early in the 2nd half after taking a 52-29 lead with 12:36 left in regulation. Saint Mary’s held Santa Clara to just 39.1% shooting from the field and outrebounded the Broncs by a 39-24 margin in the victory. Leading the way for the Gaels was Jordan Ford who had 23 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals.

On the season, Saint Mary’s is averaging 75.4 ppg on 47.7% shooting from the field. The Gaels are averaging 7.6 three-pointers per game on 37.4% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Saint Mary’s has been led by Jordan Ford (21.6 ppg, 2.5 rpg, 2.8 apg, 1.5 spg), Malik Fitts (16.0 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 1.2 apg, 1.2 spg), Tanner Krebs (8.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg), and Jordan Hunter (8.5 ppg, 6.3 rpg, 1.1 bpg).

Defensively, Saint Mary’s is holding their opponents to an average of 67.5 ppg on 45.0% shooting from the field. The Gaels have a rebound margin of 5.1 and a turnover margin of 0.5.

The Waves are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games vs. a team with a winning % above .600 and 13-5 ATS in their last 18 games vs. WCC opponents. The Gaels are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games, however, are just 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall.

Pepperdine has lost 3 of their last 4 games and come into this game ranked 89th in scoring offense, 244th in scoring defense, and 281st in defensive FG%.

Saint Mary’s has won 3 of their last 4 games and currently rank 115th in scoring offense, 38th in FG%, and T-76th in scoring defense.

Pepperdine was able to defeat Saint Mary’s at home earlier this season in OT, however, this is a Waves team that has really struggled on the road this season as they come into this match-up with just an 2-9 record in away games. Saint Mary’s isn’t as strong of a team as we’ve seen in year’s past, however, the Gaels have been solid at home this season, posting a 12-2 record with solid wins over BYU, San Diego, and San Francisco and as I think the Gaels offense will have no trouble putting up points against the Waves defense, I’m taking Saint Mary’s to cover this large home spread. Good Luck!
