The Clemson Tigers and the Syracuse Orange meet in ACC conference college basketball action from the Carrier Dome on Wednesday night.

The Clemson Tigers come into this game looking to rebound after an 87-68 loss to Duke in their last outing. Marcquise Reed led the Tigers with 15 points on 4 of 8 shooting with a pair of threes and a team-high 8 assists while Elijah Thomas came right behind with 14 points and Shelton Mitchell added 11 points to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Clemson in the losing effort. Aamir Simms added a team-high 10 rebounds and a pair of blocks as well in the loss. Reed leads Clemson in scoring with an average of 19.6 points per game while Thomas leads the Tigers on the glass with 7.4 rebounds per game and Mitchell leads Clemson in assists with 3 assists per game this season. As a team, Clemson is averaging 74.8 points per game on 48.4% shooting from the field, 32% from behind the arc and 73.1% from the foul line this season.

The Syracuse Orange will be looking to build on back-to-back wins after a 72-62 win over Notre Dame in their last outing. Elijah Hughes led Syracuse with 22 points on 8 of 16 shooting with 6 threes and 10 rebounds for the double-double while Oshae Brissett added 19 points on 6 of 14 shooting with 3 threes and a team-high 11 rebounds for a double-double of his own and Tyus Battle added 17 points to finish off the group of double-digit scorers for the Orange in the winning effort. Frank Howard chipped in 8 points and a team-high 4 assists as well in the victory. Battle leads Syracuse in scoring with an average of 17.9 points per game while Brissett leads the Orange with an average of 8.5 rebounds and 2 assists per game this season. As a team, Syracuse is averaging 71.6 points per game on 42.9% shooting from the field, 30.9% from behind the arc and 69.7% from the foul line this season.

Clemson is 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games against a team with a winning record and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 road games. Syracuse is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 conference games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 8-2 in their last 9 games overall. The underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams.

The underdog has had a lot of success in this matchup, but the issue for Clemson is that they’ve had an issue when stepping toe-to-toe with above average competition. Syracuse has had the same issues but the difference for me is that Syracuse is at home and the Orange have stepped up their defensive efforts lately, giving up just 57.4 points per game at home this season. I’ll lay the points with Syracuse in this spot.

Syracuse -4
