The Louisville Cardinals and the Syracuse Orange meet in an ACC college basketball matchup from the Carrier Dome on Wednesday night.

The Louisville Cardinals will look to find some consistency after splitting their last 6 games following a 56-55 win over Clemson in their last outing. Christen Cunningham led the Cardinals with 18 points on 6 of 11 shooting with a pair of threes and a team-high 5 assists with a pair of steals while Jordan Nwora added 11 points with 3 steals and a pair of blocks as the only other double-digit scorer for Louisville in the win. Steven Enoch added 6 points and a team-high 8 rebounds while Malik Williams had 7 rebounds. Nwora leads Louisville with an average of 17.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while Cunningham leads the Cardinals in assists with 5 assists per game this season. As a team, Louisville is averaging 77.4 points per game on 45.2% shooting from the field, 36.3% from behind the arc and 76.9% from the foul line this season.

The Syracuse Orange will look to find some consistent play of their own after alternating wins and losses in each of their last 4 games and splitting their last 6 games following a 73-58 loss to NC State in their last outing. Frank Howard led the Orange with 21 points on 8 of 16 shooting with 5 threes while Marek Dolezaj added 10 points with 5 rebounds and 3 steals as the only other Syracuse player to score in double figures in the losing effort. Elijah Hughes had 6 points and a team-high 3 assists while Bourama Sidibe added a team-high 6 rebounds. Tyus Battle was held to 7 points but still leads ‘Cuse with an average of 17.4 points and 2.4 assists per game while Oshae Brissett leads the Orange in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Syracuse is averaging 70 points per game on 42.5% shooting from the field, 32.2% from behind the arc and 68.1% from the foul line this season.

Louisville is 4-1 ATS in their last 5 road games and 6-2 ATS in their last 8 road games against a team with a winning percentage above .600 while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall. Syracuse is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 home games and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Louisville is 12-4-1 ATS in the last 17 meetings between these two teams.

Neither of these two teams have been consistent as of late, but both have a lot going for them in terms of the trends. However, while Syracuse and the zone defense have been a tough nut to crack, the fact is that Louisville have been a tough out in their own right and have had a lot of past success in this matchup. Syracuse has also had issues beating teams not named Boston College and Pittsburgh. I think Louisville can eke out a road win here, so I’ll take the Cardinals in this one.
