The St. Bonaventure Bonnies and the Syracuse Orange meet in college basketball action from
the Carrier Dome on Saturday afternoon.
The St. Bonaventure Bonnies come into this game looking to snap a 3-game losing streak after a 64-59 loss to Northeastern in their last outing. Courtney Stockard led the Bonnies with 17 points on 6 of 18 shooting with 3 threes, 6 rebounds and 3 assists while Jalen Poyser added 12 points and a pair of steals and Kyle Lofton added 11 points to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for the Bonnies in the losing effort. Osun Osunniyi added 4 points, 4 blocks and a team-high 7 rebounds as well in the loss for St. Bonaventure. Poyser leads the Bonnies in scoring with 14.4 points per game while Lofton leads St. Bonaventure in assists with 4 assists per game this season and Tshiefu Ngalakulondi leads the Bonnies on the glass with 5.5 rebounds per game this season. As a team, St. Bonaventure is averaging 69.1 points per game on 44% shooting from the field, 35.7% from behind the 3-point line and 73.1% from the foul line this season.
The Syracuse Orange will look to build some steam after an 82-52 win over Arkansas State in their last outing. Elijah Hughes and Tyus Battle tied for the team-high with 17 points with Hughes shooting 6 of 12 shooting with 3 threes and 6 rebounds while Battle added a pair of steals. Oshae Brissett chipped in 15 points with 9 rebounds to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for the Orange in the win. Paschal Chukwu added 4 points with a team-high 13 rebounds and a pair of blocks in the win as well. Battle leads Syracuse in scoring with 17.8 points per game while Brissett leads Syracuse with an average of 8.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game this season. As a team, Syracuse is averaging 70.8 points per game on 41.9% shooting from the field, 29.6% from behind the arc and 69% from the foul line this season.
St. Bonaventure is 0-5-1 ATS in their last 6 road games and 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record while the under is 8-2-1 in their last 11 games overall. Syracuse is 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games following a win and 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games against the A-10 while the under is 6-1 in their last 7 home games. St. Bonaventure is 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams in Syracuse.
The points are worth a look given how much success the Bonnies have had ATS in this matchup and the issues that Syracuse has had at home as of late. However, I think this edition of the St. Bonaventure basketball team isn’t as talented as years past and Syracuse really opened some eyes after blowing the roof off of Arkansas State in the 2ndhalf of that game. I think this game is a chance for Syracuse to get their mojo back, so I’ll lay the points with Syracuse as I’m expecting a strong defensive effort from the Orange in this one.
