The Line: Syracuse Orange -2 -- Over/Under: 141
We have some ACC-tion on the hardwood as the Virginia Tech Hokies take on the Syracuse Orange in a college basketball matchup on Sunday.
The Virginia Tech Hokies will try to keep the momentum going after winning 9 of their last 10 games, including a 76-59 victory over North Carolina A&T in their last outing. The Hokies are also shooting 74.5% from the foul line this year.
The Syracuse Orange will look to build some momentum to start conference play after ending their non-conference slate with a 62-47 win over Eastern Michigan in their last outing. Tyus Battle led the team with 22 points on 7 of 15 shooting with 3 threes and 6 rebounds with a pair of steals. Paschal Chukwu came 2nd with 15 points, 12 rebounds, a pair of steals and 5 blocks for a stat-stuffing double-double, while Oshae Brissett and Frank Howard each added 11 points. Brissett chipped in 12 rebounds for a double-double of his own, while Howard dished out a team-high 7 assists while adding 4 steals as well. Battle leads the team in scoring with an average of 20.1 points per game, while Howard leads the way in assists with 6.2 assists per game and Oshae Brissett is the team’s top rebounder by averaging a double-double per game with 15.2 points to go along with his team-high 10 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Syracuse is scoring 72 points per game on 42.8% shooting from the field, 29.8% from behind the arc and 69.1% from the foul line this season.
Virginia Tech is 8-1-1 ATS in their last 10 conference matchups and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games while the over is 8-2 in their last 10 games overall. Syracuse is 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games following a win and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 home games while the over is 17-8-2 in their last 27 games overall. Virginia Tech is 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings between these two teams and 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Syracuse.
The Carrier Dome is one of the toughest places in the country to go on the road and win. However, I’m not leaving points on the table with a Hokies team that can light up the scoreboard and has had the bulk of the success in this matchup ATS. The Hokies have also done really well against the number in conference, while the Orange have struggled to follow up a win with a solid performance so I’ll take the points in a game I have Virginia Tech winning outright.
