Temple Owls -4 -- Over/Under: 150.5
The UConn Huskies and the Temple Owls meet in AAC college basketball action from the Liacouras Center on Wednesday night.
The UConn Huskies will look to find some measure of consistency after splitting their last 16 games following a 76-52 win over East Carolina in their last outing. Josh Carlton led the Huskies with 20 points on 7 of 11 shooting with a game-high 16 rebounds along with 3 blocks while Christian Vital added 18 points with 7 rebounds and a team-high 7 assists. Tyler Polley chipped in 13 points and Sidney Wilson added 12 points on a perfect 5 of 5 shooting night from the floor with a pair of threes while Tarin Smith chipped in 11 points to round out the group of double-digit scorers for UConn in the win. Jalen Adams was held scoreless but still leads UConn in scoring with an average of 17.7 points per game while Vital leads the Huskies in rebounding with 5.7 rebounds per game and Alterique Gilbert leads UConn in the assists department with an average of 3.8 assists per game this season. As a team, UConn is averaging 78.1 points per game on 46.4% shooting from the field, 36% from behind the 3-point line and 70% from the foul line this season.
The Temple Owls will also be looking for some kind of consistency after splitting their last 6 games following a 75-67 win over Tulane in their last outing. Shizz Alston Jr. led the Owls with 29 points on 6 of 11 shooting with 3 threes and a 14 of 15 mark from the foul line along with a team-high 4 assists. Nate Pierre-Louis added 15 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists of his own for a double-double while Quinton Rose added 10 points and 3 steals to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for Temple in the win. Alston Jr. leads Temple with an average of 18.4 points and 4.9 assists per game while Ernest Aflakpui leads the Owls on the glass with 7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Temple is averaging 74.9 points per game on 43.8% shooting from the field, 32.9% from behind the arc and 73.8% from the foul line this season.
UConn is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall and 3-10 ATS in their last 13 road games while the under is 5-2 in their last 7 games following a win. Temple is 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 home games and 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a game where they failed to cover the spread while the over is 9-2 in their last 11 conference games. UConn is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings between these two teams.
Getting points with UConn here is tempting, considering that the Huskies are an experienced team that has enjoyed success in this matchup. Temple has been strong at home, going 8-2 SU at home this season, but the fact is that Temple has only won one of their last 6 home games by more than 4 points. The rest were either nail-biters or losses. UConn carries some solid form ATS into this one and while I’m not sure the Huskies win it outright, I’m expecting a game that comes down to the final couple of possessions so I’ll take the Huskies and the points here.
