The SMU Mustands and the Temple Owls meet in AAC college basketball action from the Liacouras Center on Wednesday night.

The SMU Mustangs will look to snap a 4-game losing streak after a 71-65 loss to UCF gave SMU their 6th loss in their last 7 games. Jimmy Whitt Jr. led the Mustangs with 23 points on 11 of 19 shooting with a team-high 4 assists. Isiaha Mike added 18 points with 4 threes, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 blocks for the stat-stuffer double-double while Ethan Chargois added 11 points and 4 assists to round out the trio of double-digit scorers for SMU in the losing effort. Jahmal McMurray was limited to just 5 minutes, partly due to missing practice earlier in the week, but still leads SMU in scoring with 17.5 points per game. Chargois leads the Mustangs in rebounding with 6.7 rebounds per game and Whitt Jr. leads SMU in assists with 4.5 assists per game this season. As a team, SMU is averaging 73.7 points per game on 44.2% shooting from the field, 34.4% from behind the 3-point line and 71.4% from the foul line this season.

The Temple Owls could use a win after splitting their last 8 games following a 76-58 loss to Tulsa in their last outing. Shizz Alston Jr. led the Owls with 13 points including 3 triples and a team-high 6 assists with a pair of steals while Nate Pierre-Louis added 12 points and Quinton Rose chipped in 10 points with a team-high 7 rebounds and a pair of steals to finish off the trio of double-digit scorers for Temple in the losing effort. Alston Jr. leads Temple with an average of 18.1 points and 5 assists per game while Ernest Aflakpui leads the Owls in rebounding with 7 rebounds per game this season. As a team, Temple is averaging 74.5 points per game on 43.7% shooting from the field, 33.4% from behind the 3-point line and 73.3% from the foul line this season.

SMU is 1-5-1 ATS in their last 7 games overall and 1-3-1 ATS in their last 5 road games while the over is 4-1 in their last 5 conference games. Temple is 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 home games and 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games following a loss while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 games overall. SMU is 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings between these two teams.

Temple has had issues with consistency as of late, being up and down and being stifled by Tulsa in their last outing, a game that the Owls in all fairness should’ve kept closer if not won. However, the one thing that SMU has done a lot lately is lose basketball games and the Mustangs are falling out of the conference race fast. I’m just not getting enough points to take a shot with SMU turning it around here, so despite the success that the Mustangs have had against Temple, I’m going to lay the points with the Owls in this one.

Temple -4.5
