The Austin Peay Governors will travel to Skyhawk Arena to take on the UT Martin Skyhawks this Saturday afternoon in College Basketball action.
The Austin Peay Governors won their 3rd straight game and improved to 11-5 (3-0 OVC) on the season after defeating the SE Missouri State Redhawks, 78-60, this past Thursday. Austin Peay dominated the Redhawks on the offensive end and had little trouble picking up the victory after taking a 37-20 halftime lead. Austin Peay shot 52.5% from the field and 38.1% from beyond the arc in the victory. Leading the way for the Governors was Terry Taylor who had 17 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 block, and a steal.
On the season, Austin Peay is averaging 83.0 ppg on 48.1% shooting from the field. The Governors are averaging 7.5 three-pointers per game on 37.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Austin Peay has been led by Terry Taylor (17.1 ppg, 8.2 rpg, 1.4 apg, 1.1 bpg), Chris Porter-Bunton (11.2 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 2.1 apg, 1.0 spg), Steve Harris (10.7 ppg, 2.3 rpg, 2.8 apg), and Dayton Gumm (10.1 ppg, 3.4 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, Austin Peay is allowing their opponents to average 69.9 ppg on 42.5% shooting from the field. The Governors have a rebound margin of 4.0 and a turnover margin of 3.4.
The UT Martin Skyhawks lost their 5th straight game and dropped to 5-9 (0-3 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the Murray State Racers, 98-77, this past Thursday. UT Martin had no answers for the Racers on the defensive end and couldn’t fight back after Murray State took a 72-54 lead with 11:44 left in regulation. UT Martin shot 44.6% from the field, however, allowed Murray State to shoot 52.2% from the field & 48.4% from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Skyhawks was Quintin Dove who had 27 points, 9 rebounds, and a block.
On the season, UT Martin is averaging 77.6 ppg on 43.0% shooting from the field. The Skyhawks are averaging 7.9 three-pointers per game on 30.9% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UT Martin has been led by Quintin Dove (12.6 ppg, 4.6 rpg), Preston Parks (11.9 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 4.3 apg, 1.4 spg), Derek Hawthorne Jr. (11.2 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2.0 apg, 1.5 spg), and Fatodd Lewis (10.8 ppg, 5.0 rpg, 1.0 spg).
Defensively, UT Martin is allowing their opponents to average 82.1 ppg on 48.8% shooting from the field. The Skyhawks have a rebound margin of -2.1 and a turnover margin of 1.1.
The Governors are 6-0 ATS in their last 6 games following an ATS win and 8-2 ATS in their last 10 Saturday games. The Skyhawks are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games following a double-digit loss at home, however, are just 6-20 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Austin Peay continues their solid start to conference play with their 3rd consecutive double-digit victory and come into this game ranked 27th in scoring offense & 39th in FG%. UT Martin also has an offense that can put up some points as they rank 93rd in scoring offense, however, the Skyhawks defense has really struggled this season as it’s currently ranked just 340th in scoring defense & 341st in defensive FG%.
Austin Peay is the better team here and although they are just 3-4 on the road this season, the Governors have been competitive on the road this season as they played both South Florida & Arkansas tough. UT Martin is going to struggle to slow down the Austin Peay offense in this one and as the Skyhawks are 1-11 ATS on the season, I’m taking the Governors to continue their hot start and cover this large home spread.
