The Jacksonville State Gamecocks will travel to Skyhawk Arena to take on the UT Martin Skyhawks this Thursday night in College Basketball action.

The Jacksonville State Gamecocks has their 2-game winning streak snapped and dropped to 16-7 (8-2 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the Austin Peay Governors, 74-71, this past Saturday. Jacksonville State trailed by a 39-31 margin at halftime and couldn’t fight all the way back after the Governors took an 11-point lead with just 9:21 left in regulation. Jacksonville State struggled offensively against the Austin Peay defense as they shot just 40.6% from the field and went 0-15 from beyond the arc in the loss. Leading the way for the Gamecocks was Jamall Gregory who had 19 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals.

On the season, Jacksonville State is averaging 76.6 ppg on 45.7% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks are averaging 5.6 three-pointers per game on 30.6% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, Jacksonville State has been led by Jason Burnell (15.3 ppg, 9.3 rpg, 3.1 apg, 1.0 spg, 1.0 bpg), Marlon Hunter (12.6 ppg, 3.7 rpg, 1.0 spg), Ty Hudson (10.7 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 2.8 apg), and Jamall Gregory (9.2 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 1.7 apg, 2.2 spg).

Defensively, Jacksonville State is holding their opponents to an average of 67.5 ppg on 40.2% shooting from the field. The Gamecocks have a rebound margin of 5.2 and a turnover margin of 2.4.

The UT Martin Skyhawks lost their 2nd straight game and dropped to 6-15 (1-9 OVC) on the season after being defeated by the Belmont Bruins, 82-67, this past Saturday night. UT Martin had no answers on the defensive end for the high-scoring Bruins offense and couldn’t fight back after the Skyhawks fell behind by a 76-52 margin with 4:38 left in regulation. UT Martin allowed Belmont to shoot 50.0% from the field while the Skyhawks shot just 39.7% from the field and 31.8% from beyond the arc. Leading the way for the Skyhawks was Delfincko Bogan who had 12 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and 2 steals.

On the season, UT Martin is averaging 75.7 ppg on 43.1% shooting from the field. The Skyhawks are averaging 8.1 three-pointers per game on 33.5% shooting from beyond the arc. Offensively, UT Martin has been led by Quintin Dove (12.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg), Preston Parks (11.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 3.8 apg, 1.3 spg), Derek Hawthorne Jr. (10.7 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.7 apg, 1.5 spg), and Fatodd Lewis (10.6 ppg, 5.6 rpg, 1.1 apg).

Defensively, UT Martin is allowing their opponents to average 80.4 ppg on 49.3% shooting from the field. The Skyhawks have a rebound margin of -1.8 and a turnover margin of 1.0.

The Gamecocks are 5-1-1 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a winning home record and 6-2-1 ATS in their last 9 road games. The Skyhawks are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games and just 7-19 ATS in their last 26 games overall.

Jacksonville State has won 9 of their last 11 games and has been solid on both ends of the court this season as the Gamecocks rank 100th in scoring offense, T-79th in scoring defense, and 28th in defensive FG%.

UT Martin has lost 11 of their last 12 games and although they do have a decent scoring offense that ranks 110th in College Basketball, the Skyhawks have really struggled defensively as they currently rank just 338th in scoring defense and 347th in defensive FG%.

Jacksonville State lost their first home game of the season to Austin Peay, however, this is a very good basketball team that has some solid road wins this season at Evansville & Belmont. UT Martin is a much better team at home, however, between the fact that the Gamecocks have been solid ATS on the road as of late and that I think their offense will have no issue against the Skyhawks defense, I think Jacksonville State bounces back in this one and covers this large road spread.

Jacksonville State Gamecocks -9
