The Line: Tennessee Volunteers -2.5 -- Over/Under:
We’ve got a top-shelf college basketball matchup coming our way on Saturday from Thompson-Boling Arena as the Kentucky Wildcats take on the Tennessee Volunteers.
Kentucky is 12-2 on the year so far. The Wildcats have won their last three games, taking out Louisville, Georgia and then LSU on Wednesday. In that one, Kentucky’s PJ Washington and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander each put up 18 points.
Overall on the year, Kevin Knox leads the Wildcats on 14.6 PPG and 6.0 RPG, while Hamidou Diallo has 14.4 PPG. Also in double-digits for the Wildcats are Gilgeous-Alexander (12.1 PPG), Washington (10.6 PPG) and Quade Green (10.5 PPG).
Over on the Tennessee side, they’re currently 9-4 this year. The Vols have lost their last two games, falling most recently to Auburn on Tuesday. In that Tigers game, Tennessee’s Lamonte Turner put up 25 points.
Grant Williams tops out the Volunteers scoring attack with 15.6 PPG and 6.7 RPG, while Admiral Schofield is second on 12.3 PPG and 5.4 RPG. The only other Tennessee player in double-digits is Jordan Bowden with 10.8 PPG.
The Wildcats are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five road games and 2-6-1 ATS in their last nine games following an ATS win. The over is 5-0 in Kentucky’s last five Saturday games and the under is 5-1 in their last six road games.
Meanwhile, Tennessee is 2-5 ATS in their last seven versus the SEC and 0-4 ATS in their last four home games. The under is 5-0 in the Vols’ last five games following an ATS loss and 4-1 in their last five Saturday games.
Kentucky doesn’t come across as overwhelming on the stat sheet, but they’re a well-rounded team and solid passers across the top of their roster. Tennessee works much the same way, but on a smaller scale as they don’t quite have the array of talent that the Wildcats do. This should be a fun game to watch, but unless Kentucky goes ice cold I don’t see the Vols covering. I’ll take the Wildcats here.
